What is behind the spelling of Trichromes? Shouldn't it be Trichomes?

No, it's definitely Trichromes as the name of the group including
Bill Kreutzmann. I've just checked.

Wouldn't Trichromes be translated as "three colors"?

Ha. No: Trichrome staining is a histological staining method that
uses two or more acid dyes in conjunction with a polyacid. Staining
differentiates tissues by tinting them in contrasting colours.

Nice album, and a beautifully constructed song. I hadn't come across
the Solitary World aspect. From the same song:

It's how you say it, more than what you say
The way you play it, more than what you play

Something from Edward Young (Night Thoughts) for us to consider:

Some for renown, on scraps of learning dote,
And think they grow immortal as they quote.

Young's Night Thoughts was on my shopping list for about thirty
years, until I eventually found a copy printed in 1800. It is
sometimes held to be the founding text of surrealism. Now you can
get a nice soft back abridged version with the William Blake
etchings.
