Hrm...well, at first I was upset that my last post didn't make it into 104, but it seems that I may very well be the first real post...yay! I'm happy to be here. Can't wait until the conversations begin. Angelina.

I'm going to repost the last post from 104: inkwell.vue.104: Neil Gaiman: Countdown to American Gods <frozen> inkwell.vue.104.2008: Dan Guy (danfowlkes) Sat 16 Jun 01 22:39 JaNell -- You are too funny. ^_^ Neil -- I love the site; it's really quite lovely. And I'm glad to hear that your libretto is such fun. Godspeed on your tour. Alexander Dominic Fowlkes showed up right after lunch on Friday. He seems to have been born with a full head of hair, decent manners, and a basic comprehension of English and French. He's marvelously interesting. More later. Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts! What a perfect note on which to end topic 104! Congratulations to DanGuy and Lori and welcome to Alexander!!

My very last post didn't make it onto 104 either, but post number 2008 contains swonderful news and ends the topic on the most appropriate note. Congratulations Dan Guy. Hope all are well and happy (although a bit tired I suspect). Neil Sending a virtual bottle of champagne to break over the bow of the virtual ship which will carry you as you launch this decidedly real tour. Looking forward to seeing you in Mpls. Congratulations, Dan! Of course we'll let you in after we've closed up so you can tell everybody. You know, Dan, you make the THIRD person I know who thinks I'm funny. Besides me. Anyone remember the Simpsons episode where they go to the World's Fair here in Knoxville, and see the World's Largest Rubik's Cube? It's been moved to the front of 11th St., and does not match the old Victorian houses around it at all... Jameson, the Gnome Master from ConCat was there, and says Miss Tree is coming over to Winston-Salem soon... Sadly, the coffee house dog, Nick, got very ill last night and was put to sleep as he was very far gone with cancer. Not on topic, but I felt he deserved some kind of memorial...

Neil: Have you read Michael Chabon's "Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" yet? If not, I suggest taking a copy of it with you on the road. Great story about two fictional "golden-age" comic book writer/artists -- one of whom is a failed escape artist, smuggled out of Nazi Europe as a teenager in the coffin of the famous Golem of Prague.

Dan Guy -- CONGRATULATIONS to the three of you! Lenny -- it's on my bedside table, only two books away from being read. Of course, I'm 6 weeks away from my bedside table... Took Maddy to the library yesterday. While she picked out books, I idly picked up a book from the kids shelves called something like The COmic Book Crime, a Nickelodeon kids book, facing out, as it had a kid with a green lantern tee shirt on the cover. Read the first few pages... and discovered, to my bemusement, that it was about the kidnapping of the creator of the Dream Maker comic, who dressed all in black, and was never without a leather jacket (that was how they knew he'd been kidnapped). It was an utterly surreal moment. "I'm in this book," I said to Maddy. She looked at me as only a 6 year old can look, and said "I don't think so."

Dan - Congrats!! ::wipes her feet, comes in and looks around:: Mmmm, love that new topic smell. Neil - I have come to the conclusion that Maddy might quite possibly be the coolest person I've never met. I suddenly want to read kids books featuring you and Maddy. Maddy as the hero and you as the sidekick... she could save you from snakes and things. :-) Jen.

I blink and we've moved already! @_@ First of all: DanGuy - Congratulationss!!! Happy birthday to Alexander. ^_- Full head of hair! I had no hair when I was a baby... my parents had to put girly bonnets on me so people would recognise me as a girl. -_-; Angelina - Nice pictures. ^_- You look so cool! Much much cooler than me-as-a-bald-baby. ^_^; I remember when I first chopped my hair off to about shoulder length, my head felt so much lighter, like it would float off... JaNell and Jouni - Belated happy birthday! Jinx and JaNell - Hang in there! *sends happy vibes* Mary - Revolution? ^_- Contributed to the Amazon rankings... now I'm impatient for AG to arrive. Aaarrrggghhh~~!! Get here already! Checking copies of Entertainment Weekly whenever I see them. The latest one (here) is the June 15th issue --- maybe the next one? -- Mimi

Mimi--hank you! Yes, I had the floating head sensation as well. Its amazing how much hair weighs down your head. Jenny--I agree that Maddy seems very cool. Every time I read a Maddy story I wonder why I wasn't that cool when I was a wee one. She definitely is the type to save parents from snakes. Maybe I should be taking closer looks at Nickelodeon kids books... Angelina.

Incidentally, agreement from this quarter on the Kavalier and Clay novel. Interesting overall structure, lots of fun, and a profound respect and love for comics. And as I believe I mentioned in 104, one sequence I considered to be an oblique Sandman reference.

Sometimes I read things and I'm like: "are they serious?"...then "Nope, they're not. Tee-Hee" Neil-A Nickelodeon book? Strange. I hope you got rescued. Erynn - I'm generally trying to be funny, or at least interesting. Those inflection things are so cutesy, though, that I don't use them as often as is needed- with my real life inflection, there'd be a few every sentence... Maddy certainly has her head on straight - my kinda gal. The crazy stuff I did as a kid? Hmm, I'm told that I danced on a table at a Niagra falls restaraunt at five... I had pet snakes at that age too. Once my older son, Sean, was deciding whether or not to get into the pool- he was about four or so- and my brother Happy Fun Ball was already in. He said in this deep, growly, scary voice (think The Hills Have Eyes/Deliverance), "Hey, little boy, why don't you come on in?" Sean circled the pool for a moment, then, being brought up polite, leaned in near the pool (still about four feet away) and yelled very bravely, "NO-THANK-YOU! I-DON'T-WANT-TO!" and ran away. :)

I have returned! Mwahahahaha! I know how much you all missed me (if you remembered me at all), and I'm happy to be posting here once again. I've been spending the past few days gazing at my new Compaq iPAQ. I love this thing! I've been putting some MP3s in it, all my appointments and contacts, and some eBooks in it too. I was able to find an eBook for the Chronicles of Narnia and I couldn't resist importing it. Next up, the Hitchhiker's omnibus, and some good old Neil Gaiman books, if I can find them. -Joe

egads, take one night off to re-open a club and come back to 40-something posts and a topic change. sheesh! (and apparently i'm boycotting capital letters again) dan guy - *congratulations of the highest magnitude!* what a wonderful way to end 104! janell - would you mind dropping me a line with jameson's email addy in it? i seem to have lost it and have been meaning to write to him. i tend to forget that some of the simpsons stuff is real... the cube scared me. as does the comic book store guy, who is based in part on a guy out here. tho' he scares me less since he hooked me up with lots and lots of death stuff (and i think this is the third time i've brought him up today... huh) angelina - i seem to have managed the opposite sensation, as i added extensions the other night. didn't notice the weight until today tho' as the pain of the tight twists kind of distracted from it. it's blonde too now, so feel free to let the jokes fly (my mother started in with them today - and people wonder why i call her mommy dearest). squeaks, who wonders what the ebay value of a my little pony is these days

On the subject of eBooks, since Joe mentioned it: I'm in the process of moving--luckily only about 10 miles to a friendlier neighborhood, better apt...Sorry,I digress--and am currently trying to box up all the books my S/O and I have accumulated in our cumulative 51 years on this earth (26 for me, 25 for him, years that is). I want the books that I don't mind owning in mass market paperback in a more compact form. I want to keep buying books, I want to have them accessible, but this is reaching critical mass. So I check out eBooks. Unfortunately, it seems like the good, portable reader-device-thingies (not to be confused with other thingies) are exorbitantly expensive and I can't see curling up with my desktop or even a palm pilot in a comfy chair by the fire. It seems like the selection less than optimal, too. I'm disappointed. Is this technology going to expand or is this one of those flashes in the pan that won't pan out? I was very excited when the concept first hit the stores a couple of years ago, but from what I can find it's not progressing terribly fast. Opinions? Suggestions? I want my shelf space for wonderful Alan Lee art books and myriad graphic novels, but I want my paperbacks too. <sigh>
