Just wanted to say Happy Halloween, and Happy New Year, and all. Hope
it was great for everyone (my sister was dead-on as Death. Couldn't
believe it. She put the costume together in three minutes flat. I'll
have to scan a picture).

won't make things work out right? I've been given/been giving myself a
really good thumping lately...

Happy Halloween, Happy Samhain, Happy New Year for them as celebrates;
ya pays yer money and ya takes yer choice of holiday, I guess. Am
currently visiting chez Mike, after an evening with the women's ritual
group at church. (It was my turn to lead one, and it felt like a very
good one to do. Remembrances, and a pause on the threshhold; it's such
a liminal day. I like liminal. Liminal is good, liminal is
interesting....)

Hadn't been intending to dress up, really, but at four p.m., got
inspired after all. Wound up going in full Dancing Glow Lady regalia,
with the big electroluminescent rainbow wings, and a black top hat with
a neon rainbow feather. Highly satisfactory. Had a lovely interaction
on the way from home to church with one of the young men who sits in
the back of the bus with folded arms and a scowl. Apparently
neon-lighted rainbow fae are sufficient reason to give up being cool
and aloof for a moment; he gave me a lovely heart-melting smile. It was
really neat. We wished each other a happy halloween, and I got off the
bus to walk the rest of the way to church.

Have discovered one major advantage of doing light-up eveningwear in
October versus in July: if one spends any time outdoors in the dark,
say, dancing in the glowing winged ensemble, later in the season is
better, and after a frost is best of all. Before a frost, the insect
population is too big, and a person runs the risk of being a giant
walking buglite. (Eeeyuw! I learned to turn off the wing neon and take
the wings off and let them hang from the shade canopy out in the
campsite at the Folk Festival, so the bugs would get bored now that the
light was gone, and go do something else. If ya take lighted wings
right into your tent, well... it is no fun sleeping in a baggie that
goes buzz.)

Anyhow, happy happy, everybody! Feel better, Neil!

Samhain blessings to you all.

If I get pictures of 11-year-old (!) Lyndzie as Death, I'll post a
link. The next generation takes over......

Liminal *is* good, just.....precarious? Perhaps "fraught" is a better
word. Be safe, y'all.

Saw Adriana et. al. again last night. They were terrific again.
Unfortunately, we got stuck in traffic and missed much of the show, but
I made it in time to hear my favorite song.

Wasn't somebody talking a while back about what to call it when you're
a Thingie-groupie? I guess I'll have to be one of them, then, since I
have a favorite song, now.

Also, I am once again one-degree separated from Bono, because he
kissed Lisa's hand.

But I think I'll never be quite the same after having seen Winnie the
Pooh play lead guitar.

Pooh does a sound check:

<ambles up to mike>

"Testing, testing.

One...

Two...

Oh, bother.

Tigger, what comes after two?"

(Tigger plays base and keyboards, by the way.)

I once reduced the wife of a very Tiggerish friend of mine to
hysterical laughter by singing my version of the Tigger song to her
husband:

"A Tigger's a wonderful thing
His bottom is made of a spring
He's bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, bouncy..."
~double-barrel shotgun snick noise here~
~two shot gun fires here~
and in my own voice, maniacally, "Fun Fun Fun Fun Fun!"

Guess his bouncy happy wore on her a bit, too.

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween. Yesterday was also Jess and I's
anniversary. Two years. Two years he has put up with me thusfar. And a
happy two years at that. The weather was surprisingly lovely and we
ate at a Very Fancy Restaurant. They put napkins on our laps, lit our
cigarettes and served us small, but decorative, portions of the most
delicious food I've ever had. For two hours we felt like rich, famous,
important people. Jess said, "Wouldn't it be nice if we were really,
truly rich and could do this everyday?"
  "Yes."
  Hmmm...gotta finish my story.
So I had a wonderful evening and realized that I love my husband now
even moreso than I did last year, and the year before, and the year
before...

Adriana- Do you have a CD? Tape? Demo? If so I could send you some
money and you could mail me one, if you want.

JaNell- I would LOVE to be dead to Harlan. You're so lucky! To be
dead to him would imply that you were once alive to him. Ha!

Neil- I hope you're rested and had a Happy Halloween. Did you dress up
as anything? What was Maddy?

This was the first year that I didn't dress up as anything. Last year
I was a fairy, the year before that, a Bride. We did, however, after a
few bottles of Champagne, attempt to dress up the cats. Two of them
would have nothing of it, though one of them humorously passed as
Mother Theresa for a good ten minutes at least.

Saw *Mulholland Drive* the other day. It is by far the most beautiful
movie I've seen in a long time. It has everything: Love, jealousy,
revenge, broken Hollywood dreams. Loved it. There's always a lot of
emotion in David Lynch films, of course, but this one....wow. I put
together most of the puzzle pieces before I read the spoiler reviews.
However, there is a great spoiler review that explains almost
everything about it, even he things that you may (at first look) think
make no sense. Salon.com. Damn. I don't have the link. Will find it
later. You shouldnt read it before you see the movie anyway. Oh, and I
figured out why this movie got made so fast. It's the two hour trailer
of what was supposed to be the ABC series. He reasembled the cast and
added some lesbian sex scenes and some closure. Even without the
nudity, I can't see it being an ABC series, but it made a lovely movie.
Has anyone else seen it?

Erynn, off to read another story out of "Angry Candy" and then attempt
to write something half as good.

Ps- Neil, do you know when we can expect to see the story that you did
with Gene Wolfe in print? (if this has alreay been addressed then I'm
going to feel really dumb.)

Cam is very. very, sick, too, which is unlike him. I may have to skip

I'd rather stay home and take care of him.
He might rather I let him have the whole bed for a while.
Have to go ask...

Yep, Cam is way too sick.
Even if I didn't care about his well being, leaving the kids here
alone with him would equal leaving the kids here alone.
So I'm staying in, which is what I really wanted to do anyway.
As I was straightening out the covers and such, I heard a loud thump
and then something rolling across the floor.
It was Ro's cough medicine.
Apparently Dr. Rowan had made Cam a house call.

More e-mail from Jouni:

Oh, forgot...

Happy Halloween everybody.

We don't celebrate Halloween that much in Finland, but recently it has been
'imported' from America even to these northern wastes... well honestly it's
just stores trying to sell all kind of glow-in-the-dark plastic crap to kids
to make a few extra bucks... err, marks... I mean euros.

And that reminded me. In a few months we'll lose our own currency (Finnish
Mark) and instead have Euros. Jeez...

I have the world's best doctor. Or at least, I have the last Dr in the
western hemisphere who will make a house call...

I'm now taking antibiotics that cost enough that I am suddenly very
grateful for my writers guild medical coverage.

On the laughter is the best medicine theory I listened to the CD of
GLORIOUS today. (Note to Mary et al -- Amazon.co.uk sells Izzard CDs in
2 for 2 sets at the same price they sell the CD if you buy it on its
own.) The antibiotics will probably work better, but it didn't hurt...

jaNell -- hope Cam gets better soon...

Jouni -- I cannot decide whether I shall be glad to lose all the
envelopes downstairs filled with currency brought back from foreign
trips or not. (Probably I will -- I turn up places with the currency I
brought back from my last trip, and they say "Gosh, a 4 Kronermarkfranc
note. It's not legal tender any more of course, but it is a collectors
item.")

Dave sent me the rough sketches for his Coraline illustrations today,
and they look very wonderful.

traditions come from.
I've been giving some serious though on returning to school in search

Neil, I want the number for your doctor,.....I've never ever heard of
