It was Jonathan-and-Jane's that I was going to before, and Hurricane
Jeanne rather mucked it up a bit.

Agh, I'm sorry to hear that! I hope they've got good insurance.

(A friend of mine's parents just more or less lost the condo they had
down there. It sounds like hella cleaning up to do, right when they're
preparing for my friend's wedding and a move from PA to Chicago on top
of it. Stress, anyone?)

Um, Neil--something I've been meaning to tell you since the Hugos--if
you're ever in the position of needing emergency cufflinks again,
there's an old costumer's trick that works well. Take 2 buttons and
sew them together, leaving a little space between them. Tie it off,
and insert them in the buttonholes so one button is on each side of the
cuff. Any kind of buttons work--fancy ones look like cufflinks, and
plain shirt buttons look like there's no French cuff.

Had a meeting at the Goodman last night, and Matthew Modine came in
and answered a few questions about the current production. He seems
very nice. And he's very tall! 6'4", one of the Goodman employees was
telling me. Terribly handsome, too, in person. Sometimes my job is
way cool.

Neil--sorry about your friend's house. You *could* go to Ireland
again--at least there are no floating clocks. Or if there were, you
now know why ;-) Oh, and thanks for recommending "Songs From the
Gutter". I love it!

Must go call parents of evil children who cut class. Blecch!

Um, yeah... (snicker)

I think I needed that visual this morning.

Cappadocia had 200 underground cities, at least one of which has 8
subterranean levels?

Got my copy of Going Postal - TPratchett's new one. Anyone else read
it yet? Alas, it came on a Monday. Unthinkable to wait until Friday to
read it. Maybe I'll call in sick half a day tomorrow morning to get the
sleep I will miss tonight.

Call in sick for half a day. As long as there's nothing urgent going
on at work, you'll regret it if you don't.

Is anyone else freaking out that Fiddler's Green is just over a month
away? Just me? Okay, I thought so. (eek!)

Mousely One--yeah, I think I was more thinking of someone else (read:
you, me or another mindery sort) sewing it for him. The image of Neil
sewing buttons is fairly amusing. (Just because I said that, he will
turn out to have sewn his own leather jacket, crocheted hats for all
the Endless, and woven half of the Bayeaux tapestry. He does have some
of the most surprising talents.)

Ack! Going Postal is out? Add that to the list of stuff I'm buying
with my teacher's discount this weekend at Border's! Gene Wolfe,
Susannah Clarke...........I'll be taking a week of to read all the new
cool stuff. See ya!

Watched The Dream of a Rarebit Fiend this afternoon. Man, it's
amazing the special effects that they did in 1906. I love teaching
film history! Found a DVD at the library that has Great Train Robbery,
A Trip to the Moon, Workers Leaving A Factory and all sorts of stuff
on it. Must own a copy........

If Neil wove ANY of the Bayeaux tapestry, that would be a talent
indeed. (And do you think he'd admit it if he did?)

Then again, he is a maker-upper of things, so he might say he did,
just to keep you on your toes. :)

OK, question:

I went to the _Wolves in the Walls_ site a while back and played the
trivia game. Getting all the answers right allowed me to download a
file called "conwolves.htmp".

What the heck do you open that with?

And did y'all see the mention of Salon in the comics today?

Because, you know, an email of the details or maybe even a ready to
print flyer to a few on the web even - www.bedrockcity.com - being my
favorite. Or even give us a flyer we can print out and I'd be happy,
even though I sadly cannot go for the reasons mentioned above, to carry
it to the store myself.

Er, if you're the least bit interested in FG, you should have signed
up to be on the FG-announce list. It's an email list for announcements
about FG (duh), and some time ago, I thought we *had* released a flyer
for fans to print up and take to their local comic shops. Yep, just
looked it up on the fg-announce site. It's there.

We've also been hitting lots of comic and sf/f conventions. And I
think I speak for most of the committee members when I say that our
friends have been so overloaded with our trying to get the 'word of
mouth' angle going that they've either converted to Neil fandom or
they're ready to kill us. :)

Dunno why more people aren't signing up... it's not like we'll be
doing this again.

heheh

Does anyone else find it very appropriate for Neil to have stayed in a
place with a pumpkin in the front yard? I mean, I know it's October,
but it just seemed fitting and Neil-like. :)

DanGuy! Good to hear from you again. I'd wondered if you would be at
the Book Festival.

I feel bad I couldn't make it, but you know... (does
weighing-on-a-scale thing with her hands) one friend I hadn't seen in a
year (and would see a couple days later) vs. a whole bunch of friends
I hadn't seen in much longer than that.... It was a painful
no-brainer, but a no-brainer nonetheless. Thanks for the on-the-spot
reporting, Dan, and especially the pictures! (Loved seeing Xander and,
finally, Molly!)

I really hope Neil will do future BookFests, especially when he has a
work-in-progress to read. This year just warn't it for me.

Dodge <214> -- Mention of Salon in _what_ comic?

Michelle -- "Er," HOW long ago did you mention the fg-announce list?

<Dunno why more people aren't signing up... it's not like we'll be
doing this again.>

Hm, maybe that's part of the problem. "Oh? And if they don't get
enough people, what are they gonna do ... not have another one? Oh,
wait, they already aren't."

FWIW, I've dropped hints around my office in case there might possibly
be ANY WORK for me in Minneapolis around that time. That's the only
way I'd be able to go, really, having the company fly me out there and
put me up in a hotel. Doesn't look like a real possibility, though.
