Ted, are you putting this information and you as the contact out for
musicians in general to circulate, or are we just enjoying an
interesting one on one networking (in the professional sense) moment
between you and David at this point?

Very enjoyable to see as a bystander either way, of course.

I'm all for projects that move the ball forward. I'm still convinced
that recorded music has value and that people will pay for it.

Getting back to SXSW, I think its exponential growth over the last 5-6
years is attributable to the fact that it's a festival for all media
in an era of digital convergence. That's also why Interactive is such a
big deal today - in 2010 Interactive conference enrollment surpassed
Music.

We could see this coming in 2006, the year I curated a SXSW
Interactive track on digital convergence. We had talked about doing an
imaginarium of the convergent future in that year's trade show. We
didn't have enough time to pull it together, but the ideas we were
discussing as 5-10 years out have mostly been realized since then,
especially smart mobile devices - visionary then, commonplace now.

We've been talking about the various problems with the event and
within media, mostly the music industry. I'm wondering what we can
expect over the next couple of years? How will media change, and how
will SXSW reflect those changes?

<55>just me and David, not for broad distribution...as the LLC hasn't
been filed yet and we have to patent protect ourselves as well....I was
trying to offer some encouragement for his, and a whole lot of other
independent musicians, dilemma...thanks for asking

Best scribble, then, Ted. This is a publicly viewable conference,
after all!

As for <jonl>'s question, if anyone knew how media's going to change
over the next couple of years, they could make a mint anticipating
those changes, but one thing SXSW has going for it right now is it's
America's go-to event for people who think they've got a product that
is surfing the wave, and whether it's at Interactive, Film, or Music,
they usually know that showing it off there is a good idea. After all,
that's where Twitter started, and this year I met several young
entrepreneurs introducing apps for the "reputation economy" (do they
still call it that?), apps for sharing opinions on things like
restaurants and sharing, um, other things (I didn't understand every
rapid-fire presentation I was given, to be honest).

58> Good Ed, 'reputation management' is this week's phrase... but I
like 'reputation economy' which is certainly how the digital marketers
see it.

I read it. It was a foolproof plan to get you into 2500-seat clubs
eighty times a year, all the blow and girls you want, plus blue M&Ms.
But like that brilliant paragraph we've all written, the one that
disappeared when the power went out, it is gone forever into the ether.

<50>, <65> David I'll e-mail you what I originally posted, as Ed
pointed out, I forgot this was publicly viewable, and the info I posted
is not ready for that....yet!

Sex, drugs and rock and roll are up to the individual artist, we just
supply a new medium for distribution of music and collaboration with
other artists:)
