Very nicely. Self-starter, told stories, very humble and friendly. Like
falling off a log, it was.

I Was privileged to introduce Dave Barry last night at Book Passage. I
brought along a 6-piece rock band, and we performed two songs with Dave,
then I introduced and he was just hilarious...great fun; a couple of other
singing authors stopped by to sit in, too.
(jrc), did you meet Elaine, my associate, with McNeil?

The most interesting stuff about us is the stories we cannot tell.
Basically, we're babysitters for authors on tour.

And now for a coy little reminder that that tomorrow's the date
for Online Research with Reva... No segue, but you can't have everything.
The WELL and The Exploratorium are doig our very FIRST collaboration...
an evening with online research expert Reva Basch, who we all know as the
author of Researching Online for Dummies, as well as Queen of Cyberspace and
Aubergine. So see you there at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, at San
Francisco's Exploratorium, 3601 Lyon Street at Marina (at the
Palace of Fine Arts), in the Learning Studio. Free, even.
Or, if you want to participate virtually, come to
http://www.well.com/conf/inkwell.vue and listen to a Real Audio simulcast.
That should be good! Please help make this a landmark event, and the first
of many such meetspace/meatspace happenings. You know, f2f and computer
to computer, parties and gatherings in multiple dimensions.
Yes! Everybody be there!

I WANT TO GO! I WANT TO GO!
Two sort of literary upcoming events on the east coast:
Thursday, November 19 - Rock Bottom Remainders at The Bayou in Washington
DC, a benefit for DC Scores. There's some mysterious tie-in with pro soccer
and the national Gallery, too. Tickets available at Ticketmaster
Saturday, November 21 - Rock Bottom Remainders at Bayside marketplace in
Miami, 6 PM... this show is free and open to the public, and part of the
Miami Book Festival.
For those unfamiliar with the Remainders, we're an all-author garage band
that puts on a great show, although the musical chops are aspiring to
mediocre. Warren Zevon is our current rock star in residence.

Oh, let's see... what-all did I buy?
The real prizes:
Two copies of DICK FOR A DAY at the Good Vibrations booth (a collection
of essays by women on what they would do if they woke up with a penis)
A used hardcover of <mm>'s THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS
A used harcover of JUDGMENT DAY, Nathaniel Branden's memoir of his affair
with Ayn Rand
A remaindered new copy of A SUPPOSEDLY FUN THING I'LL NEVER DO AGAIN (the
title essay alone being well worth the $5.98 -- I laughed till I cried
when I read it in Harper's)
Also ...
The New Yorker Book of Business Cartoons
Grace Slick's memoir, autographed
The Years With Ross, by James Thurber (used)
And some other ones, I can't think now.
I wake up with a penis most mornings.
Oh, wait. You mean =attached= to them.
