.
I'm just an ordinary monkey.
I've had one or another kind of meditation/mindfulness practice for
over 50 years, mostly DIY. In my day to day, I'm a greybeard project
manager and part of a member-owned web development company.
No transcendence yet, but practicing.
I heard my calling early, in my tweens. Freelance writer & freelance
mystics. And Im a late bloomer. Dozens of day jobs later, now that
Im 70, I feel like I'm just beginning to discover what all this
means and entails. Im likewise coming to understand the privilege
of being born white and male. And Im happy to think of all I have
yet to know.
Only gratitude.

I have to say -- it's 2018 and you just realized that being born white
and male was a big deal?
Anyway, whatever; I am a host of the Buddhism conference so naturally I'm
interested in mindfulness. When I see/hear that word I always think
Vipassana but maybe it's more general than that.
I'm here. Curious to see where this goes. I'm currently using a
meditation/mindfulness app called Calm and taking some gentle yoga
classes.
Welcome, Felicity & Michael.
It looks like this is a dead conference.
I'm 70, mostly retired since 2005, totally retired since 2010. That
has given me time to meditate. Most days I go to a little temple
near my house and sit for 1-3 hours. Doing vipassana. It has
worked for me.
I'm probably talking to myself. No body much checks on this
conference.
This conference has been on my list for a while but hasn't popped up
with activity until now.
How can you meditate for 1-3 hours without falling asleep?
Go to the Buddhism conference and ask that. You will get more of a
discussion.
Short answer: It is very easy for me. Some people get sleepy, but
that is not my major difficulty. Different personality types have
different difficulties. If sleepiness is your problem, then there
are specific antidotes. Go to the Buddhism conference and ask.
There is too little traffic here.
The original intention in setting up this conference was to have
world-readable discussions of mindfulness. It's somewhat redundant
with the Buddhism conference, so the only difference is that we
could have discussions that are open to readers not on the WELL.
This was Gary Gach's idea, and we thought it was a good one at the
time. One of the better and more lively discussions in
<inkwell.vue.> was a panel of participants from the Buddhism
conference. However the redundancy was such that we never had much
activity here, or enthusiasm for public discussions. It's definitely
revivable.
I just joined the Well again after many years away Can someone tell
me how to change the font? This one is very light typewriter font
