This is a recording of the flight call ("perwicka") of a Resplendent Quetzal, considered the most beautiful bird in the Americas because of its brilliant red, white, and iridescent emerald green feathers, including streamers over two feet long. The Quetzal is the national bird of Guatemala, and is likely to become endangered. The recording was made in a cloud forest in Costa Rica in 1988 or '89 by Earl Vickers. This sample is from "It's a JUNGLE in There", a 60-minute binaural (3D) cassette (no longer available) of tropical rainforest sounds.
