Have a cup of coffee and check out the menu. So, what'll it be?
As you've probably noticed, I'm turning this site back into what it was always intended to be: a fun personal web page. If you're interested in finding out more about my work, please visit my new professional site at www.fawnfitter.com.
I have the best job in the world: I'm a freelance writer. I get paid to ask people questions about the things that fascinate me -- and fortunately for me, almost everything fascinates me.
What do I write about? The short answer is "Whatever people will pay me for." The long answer: I write a lot about career and workplace issues, as well as -- among other things -- love, chocolate, online auctions, salad bars, medicinal herbs, Tarot cards, New England, and, of course, the Internet. This page lives on my virtual home, The WELL, where I co-host Byline, the conference for freelance writers. I spend much too much time on the WELL when I should be working.
I volunteer as a "feline adoption counselor" at the San Francisco SPCA. It sounds rather impressive, but what it means is that I get to play with the cats.
Which makes Miss Thing horribly jealous when I get home.
I'm also fervently pro-choice and urge you to support women's reproductive health issues. If you can't donate your money, please donate your time to your local clinic, or at the very least, get on a mailing list so you can stay up to date on the issues.
Philip Larkin wrote many fine poems. Here's one of my favorites.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to drive cross-country? Have you ever done it?
In September 1999, a friend and I spent six days in a Honda Civic hatchback, zipping from Boston to San Francisco at an average of 75 mph. Every night, I wrote up the day's adventures, posting them online so my friends and family wouldn't worry about whether I was dead in a ditch somewhere by the side of I-80. From the "Quaker Steak & Lube" to the Red Garter Casino, I tell all.
Tasty electronic snack treats from the minds of my friends.

Yes, I hand-coded this whole page myself. Simple is good.
