Psychological Dependence Upon Self-Image

Having self-image as the foundation of psychological security is the cause of all mental disturbances. All mental instability, from mild depression through complete insanity, occurs only if self-image is fundamental to one's psychological security.

Habitual reliance upon self-image as fundamental psychological security results in serious impediment to self-correction; since the mind will always find it energetically more efficient to block awareness of fundamental error, rather than attempt such strenuous effort as correction there would require.

When self-image is no longer important, when it no longer serves as fundamental psychological security; then reflexive maintenance of self-image no longer prevents self-correction and intelligent self-correction can automatically occur.
