  Mahesh Bhatt, a leading film director, was born in 1948 into a family of film makers. In 1970, he dropped out of college and took to film making himself, directing his first Hindi feature film at the age of twenty-one.  To date, he has directed and released twenty-one films of which Saransh won the Special Jury Award at the Moscow Film Festival in 1985.
