There is a happy post script to this story. This July, Kerbi spent the night with a female hedgehog, Pike. In early August, he spent two days with Pike and later on an entire week. In late August, three lovely little hoglets were discovered resting beside a very grouchy Pike. Going by the hedgehog gestation period of 31 days, it is apparent that Pike became pregnant during that first visit. Kerbi is the proud father of two males and a female hedgehog, now named Tyrone, Pemur, and Lessa. Pike came to live with me in late September, due to her extremely fearful and aggressive temperament. Lessa stayed with Pike's former owner, and the two male babies have been adopted by friends of the family. For more information, check the Hedgerow Hoglets page.

Once again, I have some sad news to report. Kerbi crossed the Rainbow Bridge in late April, after a brief but courageous battle with aspiration pneumonia. He was five to six years old by our current estimate. Kerbi was with me for three years, and was the most wonderful, even-tempered hedgie I have ever seen. Kerbi alone convinced at least two people to purchase hogs of their own, and caused many more to consider the idea. I have recently read about 'therapeutic hogs,' hedgehogs with the ability to calm other hedgehogs and help them get past a background of abuse or neglect. Hedgehog rescuers are familiar with this phenomenon, and from my experiences with Pike and Angel, I believe that Kerbi was a true therapeutic hog.
This page is now decicated threefold, to Angel, Kerbi, and all of the hedgehogs who have passed away.

Wow! It's been a long time since this was updated. This March another
hedgie joined us. Trinity is a two year old female who came to me from
an owner who felt she didn't have enough time to spend with her. She's
been added to My Hedgehogs. Also, Alby, a male albino hedgehog, is visiting
us in hopes of babies. I've added a Hedgehog
Courtship page with pictures of Alby, Trinity, and Pike.
Hey look! Isn't this cool? Kerbi and Angel's Hedgerow was chosen for a special award in spring 2001, before Angel and Kerbi's crossing of the Rainbow Bridge and Pike and Trinity's arrivals.
