In Father Murphy's words, Drogheda was fortified by
"a wall more than a mile and a half in length,
enclosing an area of about sixty-four acres Irish measure.
Its height was about twenty-foot,
its thickness from four to six,
diminishing towards the summit so as to allow a
space of about two feet
behind the embrasures for the soldiers to stand on."
