"The castle of Don Isle, situated on the sea-coast beyond Tramore, was bravely defended by a lady. It was built on a rock almost inaccessible, and judging from the ruins still remaining, it must have been a place of prodigious strength. It is situated on the coast, between Tramore and Dungarvon. History records that it made a gallant defense, holding out for a long time against the attacks of a fierce soldiery well provided with artillery; but that it yielded at length and was destroyed."
