Just outside of Waterford, Cromwell destroyed Butlerstown Castle.
Butlerstown was at this time
under the control of Richard Butler, 3rd Viscount Mountgarrett,
whose first wife was Margaret O'Neill, the eldest daughter of Hugh O'Neill
and a cousin of Owen Roe O'Neill.
Mountgarrett was probably not at home when
Butlerstown Castle was demolished.
