Probably because there was not much traffic to and from the forest that lay beyond, there were no Ferris wheels at the NorthEast gate. The gate itself was small, with room for only a few people to pass at one time. On either side of the gate, stretched blocks of multicolored tents, barbequing areas, tables of vegetables. Inside the tents were bread, cheeses of all kinds, barrels of unshelled peanuts, apples, oranges, ham, roast beef, honey, strawberry jam, bottles of wine and many other things. In open areas were barrels of beer. People of many races sat at blue-checked- oilcloth-covered tables -- laughing, talking, drinking wine together.
