Before she went to bed, she smeared dust from the book shelves on the places she had been working, so that what she was doing was not apparent. Soon, she was able to open and close the window.

In the escape plan that she and Clara had devised, Clara had 17 miles, and she had 15 miles -- about four days each to reach their destination. Delays were expected, but only three extra days were allotted, and she had spent them in Anyaclaver.

One week from when they started, at a designated place on the East side of a Lake, she would meet Clara, with whom she had secretly communicated by email for almost a year.

Soon in the dark of early morning, she would leave Anyaclaver.
