I was supposed to record the scores, the number of times the girls had
hit the target and where they had hit it. Approximately 70 years later I
clearly remember the humiliation of being unable to match the medal
winners with the medals.
The medals had been given to me by the Camp Director in a box, each one
packaged in a sleeve of transparent paper. They were well organized when
I got them but somehow or other many had slipped from their sleeves, and
I did not even know which medal was which, let alone which girl should
receive them.
In the end I awarded many more archery medals than were earned.
It seemed like a good solution to me, but I was not encouraged to return
the next season.
