I will work from the photograph which appeared in the Duncan Falls paper.
It shows me standing by myself in the middle of the cavernous space where
my work will be exhibited. It is not the best picture of me but I am
accustomed to tearing photos from newspapers and tacking them beside the
canvas while I work. The paintings are of course not copies of the
photos. The photos are a kind of reference point to which I return when
the figures on the canvas get out of hand -- by which I mean when they are
overwhelmed by the seductive layers of paint, and I need to remind myself
what the painting is about.
