In Baghdad: 1951, Caen tells a story about the sculptor Beniamino Bufano. How he put an ad in a Monterey Peninsula magazine:

'Wanted: Scenically located studio where I can work on several new projects involving 40-foot statues. Must be fireproof. Can pay up to $10 a month.' silly, huh? But almost immediately Benny was offered a studio -- for $5 a month. After inspecting it critically, he turned it down. 'Sorry,' said Mr. Bufano. 'I don't like the view.'"
