Saw an installation at the old 80 Langton Street space about twenty years ago. Sonya Rapoport's Objects on my Dresser. Distinguished Berkeley painter. Showed her work at the John Bolles Gallery. Began to work with electronic media in the 70's. The installation was a computer plot and images of all the things on her dresser. She had a psychiatrist analyze the meaning of the objects, and that information was also a part of the work.

I didn't think about her work until after I had finished three portraits -- My Mother, My Father, My Brother -- and placed them on my bureau. And then it seemed that I was varying this. There had never been much on my bureau top except for the portrait of Luke and an old hairbrush. Now I am making images of my past and putting them on my bureau. Until the meaning of my life is clearer?
