On her way home, Caydance stopped at a cafe. Accompanied by cappuccino and a strawberry tart, she opened her notebook and out of sight of the book-without-a-key's and its current place on her studio table, confronted her notes.

The images and text on the exterior of the book were seemingly haphazardly placed with no regular spacing between them; some overlapping, some on top of another. This afternoon, she began with a quote that set the stage for riddle and identity and could be taken as either a beginning or an ending. She knew that the author of the words was Howard Fried. The words were excerpted from a performance description of his "The Journey":

arrow "I posed the riddle's specific directive: 'Who is they?'....'The Journey' was about to begin. It would progressively add information possibly leading to the comprehension of the riddle. Those who wished to participate were asked to follow me."
