She could not, Caydance realized, try every key in the box on the object that lay on the counter. That would not be consistent with her story. However, it was likely that the key looked like the key in the drawing on the book itself, and thus had a mildly ornate top and a long stem. The part that would be inserted into the book object would be rectangular. To integrate with the aesthetics of the book, as well as to match the icon, the key would be bronze or gold.

There was only one key in the box that was anywhere near matching that description. However, it was plastic, nearly transparent with a silver-blue tinge.

"That's funny, I don't recall seeing this key", the young woman across the counter said. "It looks like a child's toy or a party favor that would be mounted on a cupcake." Before Caydance could say whether or not it was her key, the woman tried inserting it into the keyhole in the book.
