On the syllabus she had moved the class on fine print books closer to the top and was now dealing with the mess in assignments that this created. She put aside the syllabus, picked up the phone, called the number printed on the letterhead.

Giving her full name, Caydance Skye O'Brien, she asked the women who answered if there was a Major Knox there and if so, could she speak with him.

"Major Knox is currently abroad and will not be back for a month or longer.".
