Caydance Skye O'Brien walked into a Marina-situated bar on a Wednesday in late September, Maurice Griffin McGuire, aka Griff, was sitting at precisely the same ocean-side table, where she had been sitting when he walked in on a sunny late summer afternoon. In front of him on the table was a book in which he appeared to be deeply absorbed.
"Hello", she said tentatively, pulled out a chair and sat down. Griff looked up and smiled.
The book on the table was Snake by Ken Stabler. Caydance had seen an advance copy of this book in her Dad's study when she was home in the early summer, but she did not reveal this.
"You are interested in snakes?" she asked politely.
