Carrying a plate of flautas, salsa, and guacamole
and a bottle of imported beer,
one of the musicians sat down beside me,
introduced himself and began to talk about his work,
a kind of sidewalk performance art.
At night just as the crowd is arriving--
at operas or the opening of exhibitions --
he stands near the entrance of the event.
Slides are projected on his body
by a device he rigged up which runs off the battery of his car.
He usually wears white.
There is a soundtrack,
and the images, which are photos and text,
are projected in a loop so that when the sequence is done,
it begins again.
