The Big Sur to Carmel Marathon is occasion for much festivity in the Carmel Highlands. Neighbors bring pot luck dishes to outdoor tables set up in front of the local mom & pop gas station/store, which provides gallon after gallon of fresh-squeezed orange juice and champagne for a fine al fresco Sunday brunch. As the runners stream by, party-goers cheer them on, and a three-piece brass band plays everything from polkas to Big Band standards.
