Costa Rica, November 2006 -- The plants and flowers


I recognized the form of this incredibly fuzzy flower -- a heliconia -- but I'd never seen a hirsute one before and I was entranced.

I was told that this unripe, round green ball, about an inch across, was an inedible fruit of some kind.



Though the flowerhead looks like it'd soon be displaying a profusion of white blossoms, these plants never showed more than one bloom at a time.
