Mexico, 2003

We took a day trip to Guanajuato, the state capital and birthplace of Diego Rivera. Like San Miguel, Guanajuato is a colonial town with many buildings dating back to the 17th and even the 16th century. Once a silver-mining town, its subterranean mine tunnels have been converted into a complex series of underground roadways for public transportation.

This bus station mural depicts Guanajuato as it would have looked 150 years ago.

One of many exquisite fountains that dot the city. Note the interesting pastel hues of the colonial buildings.

Another classic street scene in Guanajuato.
