My favorite arcades

There are a couple of swoon-worthy 19th century shopping arcades in downtown Sydney that are must-see's, even if you aren't into shopping. The stained glass windows and domes, the elaborate wrought iron bannisters, the lavish opulence of every inch of these buildings' decor is stunning.

High overhead in the QVB hangs a massive clock that commemorates Captain Cook's "discovery" of Australia.

This scene from the clock depicts Cook claiming the "uninhabited" continent for England.

And how about this jolly scene of a convict being flayed on the beach?
