Australia 2015

The last leg of our trip is the Daintree Rainforest (read more at Wikipedia), a two-hour drive north of Cairns. There are no public utilities in the Daintree. People who live here use propane for gas, a combination of solar power with back-up generators for electricity, and rain catchment for their water needs. Cell phones won't work, and internet connectivity is extremely limited.

There's no bridge over the croc-infested Daintree River. Instead there's a cable ferry to take people and their vehicles across.

We stop at a roadside honor stand to stock up on two of my favorite tropical fruits: mangosteen and rambutan.

We stay in this beautiful ridgetop house called Jarramali, with a stunning view of the rainforest on the slopes below us and the Coral Sea beyond.

Once again, sunrises are spectacular.
