The Wednesday Vigil, Victoria, British Columbia
For more than six years, my aunt has spent every Wednesday, from noon to 1 p.m., as part of a small anti-war group that holds a not-so-silent vigil in front of the legislature building in Victoria. Their immediate goal is to see the Canadian military pulled out of Iraq. They also support global peace, an idea that some Canadians appear to support wholeheartedly while others [politely -- they're Canadians, after all] express disagreement about the concept or disbelief that it's possible.
The rally begins with the leader (in the blue T shirt) uulating and
sloganing to draw the attention of passersby.
Aunt Miriam, at 86, is my hero. Also, I love the "Make Tea, Not War" sign.
Me and my aunt, feisty broads forever!
