Explanation of the Olympic Circle:

The Berkeley Olympic Circle is an array 8 marks in a circle of 2 nuatical miles diameter, with a ninth mark in the middle of the cicle.

Mark X is in the center, mark A is 1 mile magnetic north of X. Mark B is 1 mile from X at 45 degrees magnetic, C is at 90 degrees magnetic, etc.

All the marks except one are floating racing marks, privately maintained by the YRA of San Francisco Bay. The exception is mark D, which is a government-maintained day mark.

Correct postions of the racing marks are therefore determined by the location of this daymark.

Note that charted positions are based on aerial photography from previous years, and may not reflect either the current position or the correct position of the marks.
