The diving ducks are back for the winter. This view shows about 80 of several hundred ducks rafting in the South Sailing Basin. Similar rafts of ducks are usually found in the North Sailing Basin and in the cove to the north of the Albany neck and bulb.

The South Sailing Basin is also home to two large year-round community sailing programs, a popular windsurfer and kayak launch site, two boat hoists and three docks. This relatively intense use by non-motorized watercraft seems to have little effect on the winter habitat value of this body of water.
