The northern harrier that hunts the Meadow and the North Basin Strip. It nests on the ground, using the small trees and bushes in the interior of the Meadow for cover.

Locating a northern harrier nest can be tricky, because they often make a number of diversionary false landings on their way to the nest with food. However, the paved Virginia Street extension at the northwest corner of the meadow, site of a proposed boating facility, seems to be an unlikely location.
