The wide swath of open water between the boat berthing area and the north shore of the Marina Basin reflects the design priorities of 40 years ago.

If docks A through E are reconfigured to take advantage of this space during the upcoming dock replacement project, Marina revenue would increase by approximately $60,000/year as 850 new linear feet of berthing is added.

Note that because the water area of the harbor is a fixed resource, and because boat berths take up area in proportion to both their length and their width but are charged on the basis of length alone, revenue is maximized by emphasizing berths for smaller boats rather than larger ones.
