Barbara Ehrenreich

The most recent update was 8-11-00. I have tendonitis, so it hasn't been updated as frequently as I'd like. There is a lot of work to do. Right now, I'm adding new links and fixing broken ones. A better structure will come later.

She has a piece,Vote Nader, in the Nation (8-21-00)

I was inspired to do an update because I mentioned her in an item I did on Howard Zinn for bud.com. Zinn & Ehrenreich had just joined the Progressive as columnists. Links to her columns which are online are included below. She also is writing a monthly column for In These Times. Unfortunately, they do not archive her columns. Doing it for Ourselves is online at Alternet (11-28-99). Both publications are well worth subscribing to.

Barbara Ehrenreich is a writer, activist and novelist who appears in publications ranging from the Mother Jones to Z to Time. She is an honorary chair of DSA. I've collected what writing I could find of hers which is available on the web.

Alternet has a conversation with Ehrenreich and Juliette Beck of Global Exchange on the IMF protests. (4-27-00)

Ehrenreich had the cover story in the April 2000 issue of Harpers, Maid to Order: The politics of other women's work. It isn't online, but a piece in Slate attacking it is. And she was interviewed about the article on Fresh Air on April 11th, 2000. You can listen in real audio. She also had an article, Nickel-and-Dimed: On (not) getting by in America, in the January 1999 issue of Harper's. It is about trying to live on the minimum wage. She was interviewed about it on the March 10, 1999 Radio Nation. You can listen to it in Real Audio. Her book on the subject, Nickel and Dimed, will be out in the spring of 2001. She also had a dialogue in the June 1999 issue of Harper's with Lionel Tiger on Who Needs Men? - Addressing the prospect of a matrilinear millennium.

She wrote the March 6, 1999 cover story in Time Magazine, The Truth About Women's Bodies. She discussed the story during the second hour of Talk of the Nation on NPR on March 4. You can listen in real audio. The article was also praised on the Bust Magazine website.

She wrote The New Creationism: Biology Under Attack with Janet McIntosh 6-9-97 and Confessions of a Recovering Statist 11-17-97 She was one of the first rotating columnists for the Nation's Media Matter section. Susan Faludi, who also did Media Matters, has done pieces on op-ed pages (which includes some interesting info on Ehrenreich) and NYT columnist Maureen Dowd.
