This course will introduce students to different frameworks for assessing the nature and social significance of newer information and communication technologies. It will combine historical, economic, political, and artistic perspectives, and provide overviews of selected newer technologies and applications. We will consider real and potential impacts and influences of communication technologies on society and culture, locally, nationally, and globally. Class lectures will be supplemented by guest speakers, and demonstrations.
I might note that one of the strong points of this version of the course is that the instructor can provide a fuller treatment of global and historical developments, as well as from his own ethnographies.
