Lyric revisionism: Learned via David Gans of a revision sung by Jeffrey Hellman of Relatively Dead at a gig this past weekend: "If your cup is full, may you help a friend. Pretty wonderful.
Made me smile!
Nice one! I sometimes sing "heart unstrung", probably because I am thinking about heartstrings.
I like that, too. Much more soulful than "We can get High Times if you subscribe," which I'll confess to having sung a number of times back in the day.
And Chris Hillman sang "heart of a strum."
At p 283 of his The History of Rock & Roll Volume 2, Ed Ward states (re the mid-seventies): "Drinking, too, enjoyed a revival. Beer, of course, with its relatively low alcohol content, was big, but so were sweet "wine" drinks, most famously Boone's Farm, Annie Green Springs and Ripple (the latter immortalized in a Grateful Dead song) ..." Oh dear. The only linkage I am aware of is the unfortunate illustration in the Grateful Dead Songbook.
Oops. Amusingly, I thought the song was about cheap wine, too, until I heard it. THat was well before the songbook came out, btw.
