The first time I listened to American Beauty I was fully grown, but
this song spoke to my child mind.  It was the child mind whose first
impression of human aspiration and achievement was the lunar landing.

There is a 1999 movie called Brokedown Palace, about two girls on
holiday in Thailand ("Las Vegas without parents and laws," Alice tells
Darlene) who end up in jail for heroin smuggling after meeting the
wrong guy. The screenplay was by David Arata and it was directed by
Jonathan Kaplan and produced by Adam Fields.

Listening to Furthur 3/12/2010 tonight.

Almost a year after her memorial, Furthur plays "Brokedown Palace"
followed by "It's a Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall." First time pairing. Her
way of telling me she's still with me it seems. Powerful songs,

This song finally clicked for me. Normally I'll 'listen' to a GD song a few
times in the background until my subconscious brings the lyrics forth into my
conscious mind. I think it's just my brains way of processing. Anyhow, I
interpret this song as a man losing a great love of his life--but not
necessarily a romantic love. It could easily be a friend, family member, or
even just a concept. Also, the person did not necessarily have to die
(although the song does give that impression) the person could have easily
just been lost to the narrator. The narrator then uses the soft undulations
of a river to calm him after his loss OR the narrator contemplates when (s)he
will also pass, and he will 'Rest In Peace' by a river. Either way, a truly
