Easy To Love You
Lyrics: John Barlow
Music: Brent Mydland

Copyright Ice Nine Publishing; used by permission.

Good, good morning, so good to see you
You weren't just a dream of mine
Real as a raven, real as thunder
Real as the sun shining
But still so very hard to find
I can't imagine what's behind those sleepy eyes

Little stranger, don't try to hide now
You look so young and you're afraid
There is no danger but from the devil
And he may want you but I'm in his way
You don't know how easy it is
You don't know how easy it is to love you

And come the moonrise, when the dew falls
Don't be the sun that fades away
Don't leave me darkness, she is no lover
She hides the day
You don't know how easy it is
You don't know how easy it is to love you

So, listen to 10/27/79. What are the lyrics?? Where can I find them?
It's such a pretty little love song in this version. In my starry-eyed
little girl view, it's a pretty little love song sung to a new lover, and
that isn't how the song usually strikes me.

Clive David made Brent rewrite it a bit because it wasn't "Grateful Dead
enough." I need to go through my files to find the source of that, but it
might have been Barlow in Jamaica 11/82, telling me how he was brought in to
help Grateful Dead it up.

That's how "bluebird" changed to "raven," and other stuff.

but that just refers to the Bluebird line. not the whole different second
and third verse!

There is no "little stranger" line, for example. It's something like...

morning morning, I'm so cold, you come on like a flame.

(there are other differences too.)

I checked it out and the version izzie is talking about was played through
1979 and then it changed when they next played it in May 1980. I like the
original version better too.

bear with me on the oooh oooh's...

good good morning so good to see you
weren't just a dream of mine
real as a raven, as a blue bird
real as the sunshine
and love to keep you through the day
seems somehow you made your way into my heart

ooh ooh oooh oooh oooh ooooooooooh

warm and woman, I feel so cold, but you come on like a flame
couldn't see it in myself, love, all are the same
you don't know how easy it is
you don't know how easy it is to love you

ooh ooh oooh oooh oooh ooooooooooh

(breathe?) by evening, stand beside me
when the sunlight fades away
don't leave me darkness, she is no lover
she hides the day.

you don't know how easy it is
you don't know how easy it is to love you

you don't know how easy it is
you don't know how easy it is to love you.

you don't know how easy it is
you don't know how easy it is to love you.

i remember when they broke this again in brent's late blossoming era.
it was a treat, since go to heaven had really grown on me by then.

"good good morning so good to see you
weren't just a dream of mine"

is a great two-line twist.
