Pam, the amount of words used in an extract from a review would definitely classify as fair use. And no, mostly no-one aks permission. (The one that impressed me the least was a publisher who asked for a blurb, wouldn't send any of the contents of the book, and then used the blurb as an introduction.) JaNell -- someone told me to go into the FAQ blog in the persona of the now-fired administrator and invite myself to join it? I thought I'd figured that one out all by myself. (The FAQ blog was set up some months ago by someone who isn't there, and the people who are runing the website now couldn't figure out how to get me into it, and their solutions were getting stranger and more unlikely. And then, I realised that I had accidentally been given the guy-who wasn't-there's password and ID at one point,a nd could use them to get backstage and fix things...)

Neil--You know, I get that comment a lot... And did you know that you are on top of the 'Customers who bought titles by Harry Knowles also bought titles by these authors:' list on Amazon for the book about the guy running 'Ain't It Cool News'? You pop up in the strangest places. Pam--If I may blow my own trumpet, here is a little something about my very odd experiences at ConCat: http://www.ladymisstree.com/plays/03_concat/plays03.htm And there is something even odder here (ConCat thingie cheesecake photos!): http://www.ladymisstree.com/creates/calendar/calendarhome.htm JaNell--There are two girls in that Dreaming photo (and in photos I have) from ConCat who are complete strangers to me. The girl in the back on the left with the white sleeves and the girl kneeling in front on the left. I've always wondered who they are... I had a rather wonderful dream last night. I dreamed that Neil came to Melbourne for some sort of festival and was doing a signing and some other sort of thing--perhaps a play--where he sat with a group of people in a room with a wall dividing it and another group of people on the other side. I had to buy tickets for it and, as a lark, Neil was in the ticket office. We had a lovely long chat about life, the universe and everything, much to the annoyance of the long queue behind me. It made me smile this morning. I'm rather hoping it's prophetic (although perhaps not the ticket selling part). Tree Who has a sore throat and sounds like a drag queen gargling gravel.

Neil: Hehe. But I did so suggest creating a blog for your FAQ stuff. Great minds, and all... but that FAQ email is probably among the lonely thou... Actually, Sean, my oldest, always says "Great minds don't think alike; great minds think for themselves!" Now, having just typed in some random parts of a story called "Jack Bootin' Oz" handwritten on pieces of paper gestating in the bottom of my purse, I have to say re: handwriting books: phooey on that. It's too much of a pain typing it in, and all I get for a handwritten page is a few inches... I'm hoping to start saving up for a decnt used laptop; when I'm here, all the work to do fixing the house weighs guilt on me so heavy that I can't write... Ignore my email, Tree. He's hopeless.

Yes, Janell, but you suggested setting up a blog long after a log had been set up, and after I'd already written about how it had been set up already (but I couldn't use it to post as me) on the blogger. I thought you were just teasing me about having a blog that didn't work... Kelly -- http://www.thedent.com/allure1001.html is a piece by Kevin Aucoin. He thinks that girl's a boy too.

Tree -- three was a very sweet old gentleman from Melbourne who came up to me in Trieste and asked for information on Slovenia (which the people I was with gave him). When I told him Melbourne was the only city in Oz I'd not visited he said "Well then, you've missed the best bit, mate." Which I thought was sweet. I hear rumours that the Australian tour may happen... fingers crossed. ... Wrote another chunk of the Gene Wolfe story today, and more Coraline too.

We have a curfew once again in Cincinnati...the officer that shot and killed a boy under questionable circumstances was found not guilty on all charges. Sigh. Neil--Actually, the Real Men character came to me in a dream, and I think it is a man as well. Maybe not physically, but definitely a man. Tree--I really enjoyed your calendar. While I'm just a lurker there, I still like to think myself a thingie. It was a very fun thing to see. I've missed you all. I just wish my life would stop spinning. Angelina.

Hare and Burke were referred to on CSI tonight. They were investigating this murder - of course - and one of them mentioned Hare and Burke, and talked about how Burke would kill people by kneeling on the victim's chest, then they did this experiment with a dummy where one of them kneeled on its chest which resulted in the same kind of mark found on the corpse, and one of them said, "He was Burked!" It's amazing how reading Neil, and learning more about what I read by coming here and listening to you all, continues to expand my universe and create odd synchronicities.

Ro went into pre-school today singing Souixie & the Banshees "Cities Lie in Dust". Neil, Angelina, ect: Define how one is a 'man' without the male human body... although we all know adult human males who don't fall under my definition of 'man' which has nothing to do with sexual orientation. It has to do with responsiblity and nurturing and building up rather than tearing down. Or like my Grandpa Davis used to say, "Any boy can father a child; it takes a man to be a daddy." Off I go to put that long awaited settlement check into the bank...

More Coraline! Woo!!!! Yeah!! Adriana- Welcome back! Re: Spinning- Hold on tight. It's bound to slow down. And damn! I'm not in LA. Well, knock 'em dead, and all, and break a pick, or something. Rocky- That's so funny. I love the looks on people's faces I get when I play my Babycakes CD for them. At first they're like, huh, and then they're like, Oh My God. My cousin asked me whether it was pro-life or anti-animal testing. I looked at him and said, well, it's good. Linda- I'm convinced that synchronicities simply mean you're on the right track in life. Jen--Thanks for the hugs. :) JaNell--Well, I'm one that certainly believes that you can be born in the wrong body, or have the spirit of the opposite gender. So, in other words, I think that the Real Men character is a transgendered person. But that's just my take and opinion, of course. I think "he" makes a better man than a lot of people born with the male anatomy. Angelina.

It's that 'Babycakes' that causes all the problems... I hear Neil's voice when I read his words, and when he says something here that might be sarcastic, or not, I hear it in that lovely sexy evil sweet David Bowie/Labrynth, Tim Curry/Legend come-here-my-darling-innocent-and-be-hypnotically-seduced-and-shagged-by-evil 'Babycakes' voice. So I get all confused and flustered.

Hi all. Very little is happening here, but I thought I'd drop (oops, almost wrote drip) in and say I've gotten some good sniggers from reading this weeklong backlog...and now of course I've read so many they're all blurred into a big funny hazy smear... I keep running these funny nighttime fevers, so by the time I get online, I'm kind of dopey and unable to form useful thoughts. Not that this is a big change, but it makes me less likely to post my usual drivel. Probably because I can't figure out where the post button is. Pam: Burt. Burt. I love Burt. I have no idea if he sings about oatmeal lumps, though. Oh gosh, I've gotta go. The room is starting to kind of spin. Rebecca, who is obviously a very cheap drunk.
