Neil, everybody:
A suggestion box topic was put up on the message board at

Bill -- that's brilliant. And was the stuff I was looking fro and
couldn't find. You know, I should remind the Amazon people that that
stuff exists... and find out if I'm allowed to link to it from
neilgaiman.com (Harper get VERY antsy about that. I'm not allowed to
put amazon links to books in the journal, for example...)

JaNell -- you rock. Thanks so much.

And hurrah for GMZoe. (He was, until fairly recently, married to the
lady who won it on e-bay, so his possession of the jacket is not quite
as astonishing as it might otherwise be.) (But then, what GMZoe & his
former good lady have been able to obtain has always astonished me.)

...

The hardest part for me right now is realising that neither Harper not
Authors on the Web actually seem to want or be able to create content
for the website. If anything's going to go up there, I suppose I'll
have to do it, and I really don't have time. Right now, either I'm
writing, or I'm doing an Important Family Thing (like eating or digging
up leeks) or I'm bathing or sleeping. So I'm not sure where I'll get
content-creating time from...

Not posting to add to the conversation, just wanted to say how happy I
am that I wrote two stories tonight instead of doing homework. I'm
pretty out of it, I got a lot of sun at the Ohio renfest yesterday. I
saw an... interesting production of Beowulf that involved three half
naked guys, lots of nipple jokes and a mud pit. I also drooled over
swords at the Highland Steel booth and watched the highland games.

E-mail from The Other Glen

I very rarely post, although I've realized that I stalking the entire
lot of you.

However, I must disagree with half of what Adriana said. When I was
in college I was introduced to a Jane Siberry who was as strange as
Laurie Anderson, but more lyrical. Although, "When I was a Boy" is
good, Maria is my least favorite. Instead of starting there, I'd
recommend that you dig a little and find her first self-entitled
album or "No Borders Here". Those are the songs that leap into my
mind unbidden. They show a clever wit, and a voice such that I can
think of it clearly now, having not listened to her in a year.

Excuse me, I must go home and dig up vinyl purchased in Ottawa back
when I didn't think about being an adult.

E-mail from Douglas Spadotto:

Hello Neil, here is Douglas, I posted a couple of posts (duh, what
else?) a while ago, before (and after) you came to Brazil.

    First part of the post:
The thing is: I read the problems with your site, and would like to
offer my knowledge of a programmer to help in whatever I can help. Just tell
me what to do. The professors of my university are on strike (if you can
believe that!) and I have some free time.
If you ask me, even the sections of the site that are online are a
little too heavy (at least for my dial-up connection). But the jounal is all
I need right now.

    Second part of the post:
American Gods came last week, and I'm reading it. My english is not
good, but you use so many new and beautiful words that are helping me to
learn more the language and to apreciate the beauty of it.
So far, it's awesome! I'm on the part where Nancy and Czernobog picked
up Shadow in jail. There's so many things that I would like to comment, but
none of my friends have read it (or even buyed it, for that matter).
Sorry for my poor english, and see ya!

    Thanks for posting,

    Douglas Spadotto

Whoooo, Mike you am funny.

Saw my friend Courtney Davis yesterday. Courtney is a Celtic artist
and a lovely human being. See his work at www.celtic-art.com . (Oh,
bugger, I never know how to create a link here. Oh, well, type it in
yourself!) He flies back to his home in Dorset today, so I'm glad I
got to have an hour with him. He's been in the country since Sept. 4th
& had some interesting observations about all that has happened.

And I read "Tuesdays With Morrie" today. Ouch. Great book. Hard
read. (If you've read it & liked it, I recommend my friend Dennis
O'Neill's book "Lazarus Interlude". He wrote it 15 or 20 years ago,
and it's brilliant. I found a copy on abebooks.com .)

And don't know why I'm recommending all this stuff, except they're
talented, and I love them, & they make me happy. :-)

Neil--glad you reminded me of the importance of pulling up leeks. I'd
almost forgot. :-)

Will--glad you're weekend was good. Congrats on the story! Sorry
everything else is still so scary. It's gonna take awhile to get past
this.....<hugs>

Pamela--Happy thoughts at you!

Adriana--wish I could come see your band. You should tour!

Got my tickets for Humanities Festival today. <<Neil rolls his eyes &
groans>> If anyone's coming into town for that, let me know.......

Kelly--dug your digital piece. Must go investigate this band.....

JaNell--loving your blog--trying to have time to keep up.

Mary Roane-You're not the first to imply that I'm rather... prolific,
or verbose... but between the everyday weirdness, and the writing... I
only put about half of that up, I'm saving a lot back... well, I just
have a lot to say, which should come as no suprise, I guess.

More later, I've got to drive Seanster to school. He goes to a really
wonderful school, one that gives him credit for the wire sculptures he
does out of class, and any documented childcare of Rozilla, or helping
out rehabbing the house. I really like that they don't want school to
be a totally seperate thing from the student's life.

Neil -- It also occurs to me that linking to Amazon is explicitly
permitted under their Associates program, by which you'd also earn
yourself a little extra money anytime somebody clicked through and

Will -- I shuddered when I heard the Hayter/Watchmen news. Give all
of the writers that had their hands on the script to the X-Men movie,
I'm surprised he got sole writing credit. Wanting to turn Watchmen
into a two-hour film seems nuts to me. I question whether it will get
made any time soon, though, without drastically changing the ending.
Is a film which climaxes with the death of a million New Yorkers and
massive structural damage to the city really going to be greenlit any
time in the near future?

Neil -- For a guide to your work in comics, I'm partial to GMZoe's
"Neil Gaiman Visual Bibliography" at
<http://hometown.aol.com/grandmoffzoe/neil/front.html>. I had no idea
that he has the jacket now; wild!

Other Glen - I can't tell you how much it amuses me that we're using
the same sig... heheheheh...

Danguy - excellent point. I've always respected Gilliam's decision not
to direct a film version because there was just no way of doing it at
feature film length. I hadn't even factored in the issue of how the
story climaxes until just now...
Bloody hell...
Yeah, there's not going to be any Watchmen projects for some time...

Speaking of art that strikes a little close to home and Terry Gilliam,
am I the only one to find Bush Jr.'s war on terrorism to be a bit like
the setup for Brazil? Sweeping powers to use any means necessary to
find an enemy that no one can positively identify?

Lenny -- How are you liking the DC metrorail? I used to take it every
day to and from work, but then moved a little south and so now take
the commuter trains (slightly less crowded during rush hour, nicer
seats, and I get to stare longingly out the window at freight trains
and pine for my days long-past as a train bum).

I am feeling better today. Xander seems to be doing better as well,
and Lori is fully recovered apparently -- yesterday I came home to find
that my tiny wife had somehow managed to carry my 9 x 4 x 1 solid oak
book shelf (and all of the books on it, though obviously those were
seperate trips) upstairs to our bedroom.

JaNell --1805 is the nearest to a perfectly Zen post I've ever seen.

Jen -- I once wrote a movie like that.

Mike -- I was given a discount on a frozen lemonade for maddy at
RenFest on Sunday by observing that the person serving it was doing a
Scottish accent. Or was possibly scottish.

(Then again, in the early years of RenFest they used to think I was
making fun of their not-very-English accents by doing one of my own.
Now that the compulsory not-an-english-accent has gone the way of the
dodo, I am much more comfortable there.)

Douglas -- i wish I could take you up on that offer. maybe if I set up
my quick & dirty pirate site...

Your english is fine -- and I am pleased you are enjoying American
Gods.

mary -- don't pull up leeks. Dig them up. Or you only have half a
leek...

BillBill -- well, linking to Amazon is allowed by Amazon. It's not
allowed by harper Collins as they they would get every other online
bookseller mad at them. Which is why when you click on the buy this
book thing at neilgaiman.com you just get a list of every bookseller on
the planet...

Lenny -- any particular Cat Stevens song? Peace train? Morning Has
Broken? matthew And Son?

Dans -- I remember T Gilliam turning to me at lunch in 1989, and
saying "The trouble was, when we'd thrown out everything we had to
throw out in order to reduce it to a 2 hour movie, it wasn't WATCHMEN
any more."

Dan Guy -- I'll look at GMZ's visual guide....

...Good Lord. And the Iguana photo too. (Well, what kind of expression
would you have if someone thrust an iguana into your face in the
morning? And would I have had that expression if I'd realised that the
photos would be snapped up by people back on the ship before ever I
returned?)

And a fine collection of Knave stuff. Now, he only has to find all the
Penthouses with the Gerry Musgrave film reviews, the issue of Fitness
Magazine I psuedonymously edited and wrote most of (hah!) and all the
other journalism. And a complete set of British Fantasy Newsletters
with all the book reviews in... and all the other stuff that probably
only exists somewhere in the basement and will be mistakenly thrown out
in the even of my death.

Unless it's in the attic, of course.

Tree -- which Dagon did you get? The one with the story, or the one
with the letter?
