John - Are you referring to the infamous Roy Cohn from the HUAC? That Roy Cohn? <shudder> Um..speaking of Jill Soubel's "I Kissed A Girl," I met her video husband Fabio at a book signing for his first romance novel. I think the title was "Pirate." And in defense of my presence there, no one knew he was coming. It was Rizzoli Bookstore for chrissakes! Anyway, he turned out to be a very gracious and funny guy. And don't let the accent fool you, he's a self promoting genius who mocks the very idea of being a "male model." Hey, if someone wants to pay you mega bucks just to splash your muscles all over romance novels [a $2 billion/year industry!]and that gets you hordes of swooning women at your feet, are you really going to complain? Only in America. ;> Tree and Michelle, I need your addresses. Will - See, you're not watching enough daytime TV where former geeks turn into supa dupa hotties years later and get revenge on their cruel classmates.

E-mail from Douglas Spadotto: Dan Guy - You bet that there will be a Neil Gaiman with a patch! We can even make a bad Flash animation of it! With a pirate ship and all! And maybe Neil could write a pirate's story exclusive for his pirate site. And we could animate it. Badly. JaNell - Maybe you could share some of the weirdest bookmarks with us (by us, read "me"). I'll send an e-mail to AuthorsOnTheWeb too. What do I say? "You're lame, let me make it"? I'm just kidding. I'll be polite. Thanks for posting, Douglas

JaNell--how close do you live to Roane County? It was named for kinfolks of mine. I don't blame you for being nervous. That is so scary. Got my Humanities Fest tickets by mail 24 hours after I hung up the phone. A time machine or Al E. himself had to have been involved. Nel-- re: getting tapes converted from PAL to NTSC--it's $10 a tape in my 'hood here in Chicago, and every one of the Indian electronics stores on Devon Ave. does it. Um, I don't know if they would do it by mail order, but I can go ask, if you like. That's where I had my copy of Neverwhere and all my Eddie tapes converted. Pamela--*swoon*. And he's *tall*?! Oh, my. I'm just in awe. I read Steve Martin's Shopgirl yesterday, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Terrific. Mary (reading Cause Celebre by Helen Fielding)

E-mail from Dianna: "One man's thingy is another man's wotsit." That's what it said in an exerpt of an old issue of Melody Maker i saw today. (They were refering to electronic analogue noise makers with fancy names that are mostly numbers with a letter or two thrown in for good measure. So, minds out of the gutter! all you who thought: "Oooooh... that's rude....") And i wondered.... Are all Neil's Thingies, Wotsits.to someone else? Or are Wotsits to Thingies, as Bottersnikes to Gumbles, and how many Thingies could a Wotsit comfortably squeeze into an empty jam tin? Big questions.... which are happy to remain so, such as they are :) Tree - While i was wondering skew of centre; being that you are as close to the Patron Saint of Tim Tams as any one could be (from what i've read), i wondered if you've been sharing the secret of how to eat them properly ;) ? (You know - the-sometimes-messy-if-you're-not-quick-enough way?). Which is also NOT rude for anyone who thought it. from dianna - who is really, really hoping the rumours of Neil's bottom-end-of-the-planet tour are true :)

Posting at some vile hour of the morning, during which I'm supposed to be sleeping, dammit! Um, just caught up on too many posts. No energy to really write. Rocky, check your inbox. Tree, homicidal tendencies seem to be the trend among some of the thingies and their clientelle lately, non? Got our first death threat this week. Ah, retail... Neil, maybe someday I can housesit whilst your away... I'm just thinking what cool samples could result... odd chiming of music boxes would be very nifty in my music - and crediting them in liner notes would be even more fun. Right. I'm supposed to remind myself not to post anything when I'm this tired. I don't think I'm listening to myself again. Is anyone else going to Exoticon? Or is Neil the only one stalking me? squeaks, who goes home to NOLA *every* November, I swear!

Pamela -- I love it. Tree -- That sounds like a neat billboard? All my train station has is a billboard for "From Hell" with Johnny Depp on it, which has been worrying me this past week. Will -- I've had much the same experience since graduating from high school. Through my senior year I was a complete social pariah geek, so it came as quite a shock when girls started flirting with me in college. I found it vaguely unsettling at first. Rocky -- Daytime TV features plots involving former geeks turning into "supa dupa hotties" and getting revenge on their cruel classmates?! Egads! Had I only known that when I was 16, my avenues for vicarious revenge fantasies would have been much expanded. Douglas -- A "bad" flash animation of a pirate ship - I love it! My email to AotW basically said "I know you're busy and this is probably unprecedented, but I have free time and I'm a web professional". We'll see if anything comes of it. Mary -- I too enjoyed _Shopgirl_. It made me a bit sad as I was reading it and I couldn't figure out why until I got to the last page and realized that the protagonists reasons for his continued involvement with the eponymous shopgirl post-breakup mirrored my own with an ex.

I'm not totally green with envy at all! Nope. Not even a little bit. Pardon me know while I go in a corner and plot... um... I mean sit and not be jealous. *grin* that is über-cool. Oh, almost forgot what I was going to post today... I'm a bit out of it. Got in a car accident last night. Not a bad one. I was making a three point turn out of a driveway and got my front bumper knocked half off by another car. We couldn't see each other because of a double-parked truck on the street. Everybody's fine, but I'm tweaked out pretty sideways. -feh- It feels like I just can't catch a break lately...

Dianna: My utter admiration and awe for your post knows no bounds. DanW: Well, I'm very thankful you *didn't* get a break--or rather, anything broken--last night, at least. Sympathies. Tree: I duly promise to honor your promise if we ever happen to have the lovely opportunity to get a wee bit tossed together. 'Cause the warning on Warning scared me more than an actor with a non-disclosure on a Woody Allen film (I hear ninjas are involved). DanGuy: >Pamela -- I love it. You do? <blushes> That's wonderful! Umm... what'd I do? Mary: The grossly unjust thing is that the Beautiful People are, in fact, really truly Beautiful. Almost without exception, the ones I've seen are even *more* beautiful in 3-D, even sans makeup, than on film. Squeaks: And we'd all love to get the album you made with those sound effects in it! Linda: Thanks. I wasn't sure that was a for-real email address for him; I'm not quite sure why. Also, just to check: if a post is "hidden," does that make it readable by members only? And were I to hide something, would I do it just after I post it (by clicking on the number, same as scribbling)? -Pam Who *tried* to stay away, really she did.

I realized I lied slightly; I went to a play a while back in which John Shea was the lead, and I hung out for a while and managed to catch him just before he left. Very cool, very classy gentleman sort of guy, who, chuckling, signed my Playbill "To a Superman." (as he was Lex Luther in Lois and Clark). I also met one of the guys from *The Matrix* at Virgin Megastore in Times Square, and (Discreetly) told him I thought he rocked the house (his was one of my favorite roles, I think), and he was pretty much a jerk. I didn't go fanboy, either. I kinda did, a little, when I met Neil, but not too badly, and he was utterly cool about it, and set me right at ease. Dan- I hope you get better, and I hope you get some luck and suchlike soon... positive vibes your way, man. Len- Yes, hookahs rock. I mentioned it to a friend, and she told me that the only thing she'd ever smoked out of a hookah hadn't been legal. <shrug> The soup at the place was good, too. And apple tobacco? Not apple cider or apple pie, but definitely one of the better apple products I've sampled. Neil- Did you miss my question about titles, or are you just not answering?

DanW- I'm glad you're okay:) I'm sending good vibes your way. Dan Guy- I'm not cross. I probably come off that way a lot on here because people can't see the look on my face, but I'm not. I hope you're feeling better:) Squeaks- I thought I was chronically depressed for the last two weeks. I was about ready to go see a psychologist. But then I got a full 8 hours of sleep the other night and woke up happy as a clam. Now if I could just do that *every* night I'd have it made. Even if I did see a psychologist I know what they would tell me..."You've been working too much and not writing enough." I got Tori tickets too! I think. They haven't come in the mail yet. I'm starting to get a bit worried. I need to send an email to Tickets.com tonight. If I do get the tickets I ordered, I'll be at Cleveland somewhere in the Orchestra section. Rock! I'm also seeing Tenacious D this weekend. Weeee! Neil- I have a question that is purely selfish. I've been trying to write lately (two short stories and a short screenplay) and I'm stuck. I've been (seriously) writing for a little over a year now and I remember last year the ideas flowed easier...I look back on things and my stories overall were good, but my writing style/working sucked. Now, my writing style seems like me, not anyone else (and much better), but I get stuck and judgemental on myself, like, every other paragraph. Does this mean that I'm getting better (because I'm more careful?) or that I'm just deluding myself and am not a real writer? I have no idea if that question made any sense. I'm just torn right now. I don't want to quit, though. I can't picture doing anything else and I like the challenge. I've been getting rejection letters for a year now (the one from Flesh in Blood in High School doesn't count) so, according to the myth, I have five more years of rejections before I get published. Wee.
