I want to see Harry Potter!!!

going slightly nuts. It doesn't come out here until Thursday, and I
think everything is sold out for the first week. Peh.

Yay for you Rick. Sounds like it is starting to get sorted.

Waiting to hear back about whether AGMARDT are going to fund my PhD or
not and stressing already. Which is dumb given that they said they
would be letting the applicants know in early December. Still probably
a week before I am even likely to hear anything *wry smile*

Maure - I'm just as proud about my little brother (well not so little
but younger) and what he gets up to. Nothing to apologise for.

In the interests of scientific inquiry, I have established that the
ghastly green marshmallow christmas trees do not, in fact, joust
well -- they have the same not-standing-up problem that bunnies do.
But the marshmallow goo is delicious just the same.

johanna of the green tongue

Rick -- Glad to hear you've got what sounds like a reasonable solution
on the works.
Maure -- I'll listen to yours if you listen to mine :-)
I'm waiting to hear if my baby sister got into MIT. *fingers crossed*

Elise, just wanted to tell you that I fear you've made the future of
Barking Mad Poker very interesting indeed. Mind if I put the recipe for
'jousting' on my website?

I still want a microwave. Elise has just made my next D&D session
really,... interesting. For lo, I have Peeps.

Oh, and my giggly moment of the day,.. Mars has been Very Sick these
last few days; worse than I've seen him in several years, actually.
Today, he was feeling a bit better. I know this, because he went from
chasing fruit flies with a rolled towel to walking around the
apartment, calling to them, and doing this:

Oh Martha, Ms. Martha, where have you gone?

I loved, loved, looooved _The Story So Far_. It made me want to
whoop! So, here I am.

WHOOP!

(ObMaure: The leprechauns stole my intellect, and it came back
shrunk.)

Adriana: It's *always* a good thing to go to Disneyland. 1.
Disneyland is fun! and 2. It increases my husband's job security.

Rick: Yay! I'm so glad you were able to work that out successfully!
I really hope you get the new place. May it be filled with peace of
mind and soul for you.

And Pixar definitely rocks! (I'm afraid there'll be nothing left of
Disney's Animation when Pixar runs--do not pass Go, do not bother with
any leftover baggage--out of the virtual building as soon as their
contract with them is over.)

>Much as I love Neil’s writing, it’s the quality of the people he
>attracts (and the way he treats them) that is most special to me.

What you said. It’s a kind of magic. (There’s that darn Queen
soundtrack again.) I’m just happy to be trailing along in the wake.

And another thing someone else said better...

Neil, I really like Caitlín’s website. And she said:

>"Fiction carries an inevitable burden of autobiography, whether the
>author wishes it to be there or not."

That’s what I was trying to say when we were discussing art and story
a little bit ago. I don't have the experience yet to know whether you
can get there from either end.

Jo: Good luck with your PhD! (Stress is a beastie not bounded by
time, unfortunately. But we shall defend you! <advancing with
fearsome round toothpicks> Back, you beastie, back! <poke> Hither
and yon, awa' from our wee sparrow. <flashy fencing dismount with a
flourish> There. All will be well.)

Johanna: I'm terribly sorry about the disappointing results of your
experiment, but you are my hero for raising the scientific quotient of
our little 'net nook here--and with panache, yet! A green tongue is so
seasonal!

Kelly: That's a very funny picture. I think it's the Mars-fire and
weaponry connection. My husband's an Aries and he's used that tactic
on a persistent spider or two. (Sorry for those sensitive to insect
cruelty. But some of the spiders out here have to be seen to be
believed. There is really not room in this here house for the both of
us, if ya know what I mean. Especially not if you feel the way I do
about spiders.)

Rick~ Good goin'!

So, no words of wisdom for this newspaper interview thing?
I know that some, if not most, of y'all have been interviewed
before...

Caitlin Kiernan was going to be a guest at our Con (a Neil suggestion
that I actually took). I was really looking forward to meeting her.
*sigh*

Yergh, and I thought my brain was dead before I read the 200 post
backlog. Happy belated harvest/thanksgiving/whatever, and various
congrats and sympathies to the appropriate peoples.

JaNell - never been interviewed, but I can recommend that you
a. show up
b. wear clothes
c. answer their questions instead of poking their nose and
    going 'beep!'
d. none of the above

I really enjoyed Harry Potter, I was amazed at how little noise there
was in a theatre that packed. I annoyed my roommate though, every time
Alan Rickman came on I'd start bouncing and nudging him and mouth
"Alan Rickman! Alan Rickman!" Was amused last week when a friend who
works at a daycare place had a 12 year old hanging out with her. Her
and another coworker felt bad that he was so much older than the other
kids and took him to see Potter and then on over to campus. After
talking to me and another friend he later was apparently all hyped up
about his day and asked if all college girls were 'that cool'. That
made me happy.

I figure there's probably some scifi fans on here, and thus possibly
some andromeda fans, so I want to share something which pissed me off
which is that Robert H. Wolfe was fired from Drom so that show can now
be destroyed without impediments. Ugh.

Hee, finals over tomorrow, ::cracks knuckles:: time to head to the
libraries for some fun books.

Well, I'm up here visiting a friend in Portland, and went a-wandering
through a groovy part of town today while she worked. Comic shop here,
fetish wear store there, lots of used book and music stores.
And guess what I found?
I am now the proud owner of How Much For Just The Planet? and The
Final Reflection.
Mike - if there was a way to buy them new, I would. As it's not
possible, I promise to buy you a drink should we ever meet in the meat

Which part of town were you in? Most of the fetish boutiques I know
are downtown, which doesn't have a lot of comics shops in the area,
unless we're counting the totally wonderful Counter Media, my favorite
spot for vintage and hard-to-find pornography.

I like Caitlin's journal very much, too. And I loved the Henry Treece
poems--which made me think: I don't think I say this often enough
(indeed, ever). So,

Neil--thank you for all the neat stuff (not to mention people!) you
introduce me to. You are such fun to (sorta) know!

Actually, a big thank you to everyone here! I learn *so* much hanging
out here. I wouldn't trade y'all for.....nothin', really.

And before I get all maudlin, I would like to say, "Rodents of Unusual
Size? I don't believe they exist. Gak!"

I love Jenny B. She has the coolest psueds.....

Beware, world. The Chicago Barking Mad chapter is going bookshopping
on Saturday. Evanston may never be the same again.......

Rick--Yay! Brigid & Brendan bless your house!

There are, apparently, 14 vacant English teaching positions in the
city. Who knew? I sent in my resume today.

DanGuy--good thoughts your way on the job front!

Remind me to tell y'all the latest "funny thing Debbie's son Chris
said about Neil" story when I'm less pooped.

Off to finish From the End of the Twentieth Century, which I've been
savoring (I finished Bury today!)

OK, space-lady, I love you, bye-bye!

Dan, my copy of *How Much* is actually new. I think they're reissuing
them, or something. I bought it in a Barnes & Noble, as a "classic
Star Trek novel at a classic price* (just $4. And such quality for
it). Just letting you know, in case you want a non-used one.
And Mike, I'll by you a drink if I ever see you, anyway.
Jenny- mad good studying and answer taking vibes for your finals.
Rock 'em.
JaNell- I'm agreeing with Jenny on this one. Show up, and wear
clothing. I wouldn't touch their nose, either. Beyond that, just be
yourself.

Depends on your size, Squeaks.

Saw Harry Potter. Am much impressed. Equally so by the Star Wars and
LOTR trailers,... wow! ... did anyone else notice that the Star Wars
trailer looked very Maxfield Parish at times, or was that just me?

Squeaks - as rodents go, you're quite unusual in every respect.

While Mickey's ego probably has our thrown-in Mouse beat, he himself is
somewhere around 5'2", I believe. I'll ask Robynne how tall the Mickey walk
