May 17: Author David Mason spent 17 years researching Korea's San-shin
(mountain worship) before he write "Spirit of the Mountains," the first
English-language book that explores this ancient spiritual tradition that
recognizes the holiness implicit in the human interaction with Nature.

May 31: Composer Carl Stone joins us to talk about his latest CD --pict.soul
-- and his electro-accoustic and computer music. Carl has been hailed by the

Starting June 14, former BAM editor David Zimmer serves up the inside scoop
on "Crosby, Stills & Nash," his definitive biography about this trio of rock
icons whose careers span five decades.
  

    
On June 28, WELL veteran and University of Washington professor William
Calvin will drop into the inkwell to discuss his new book, _A Brain for
All Seasons:  Human Evolution and Abrupt Climate Change_.  Those who know
his work are familiar with Calvin's explorations of the human brain in
such works as _The Cerebral Code_ and _How Brains Think_.  This latest
work looks at the relationship of climate change 2.5 million years ago to
the expansion of the human brain and the appearance of tools, as well as
the prospect of another climatic flip and what that might mean.

William H. Calvin is affiliate professor of psychiatry and behavioral
sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. He
is the author or coauthor of ten books, including Lingua ex Machina, The
Cerebral Code, How Brains Think, Conversations with Neil's Brain, and The
River That Flows Uphill. The last third of A Brain for All Seasons is
based on his cover story "The Great Climate Flip-Flop" in The Atlantic
Monthly.
  

    

Starting Friday, July 12, author and editor Oliver Trager joins us to share
insights from his new book, "Dig Infinity," a biography about Lord Buckley,
the ultimate hipster whose lyrical rants and raves have influenced
performers for more than half a century.

On July 26, Carol Wolper begins a two-week stint in Inkwell to discuss her
second novel, "Secret Celebrity," a sexy tale about the quixotic nature of
fame and fortune in Hollywood.
  

    

Starting August 9, our own Neil Gaiman begins a two-week conversation about
his latest novel, "Coraline" -- a dark fairy tale involving a Bizarro world
occupied by not-quite-right dopplegangers, including a man made of live
rats.

From August 23 to September 13, novelist and songwriter Kathi Kamen Goldmark
shares her thoughts on her latest novel, "And My Shoes Keep Walking Back to
You," and her life as a mom, author escort and musician (she's one of the
Rock Bottom Remainders, a band that includes Dave Barry, Amy Tan and Stephen

Starting September 6, coauthors Lori Gottlieb and Jesse Jacobs join us to
talk about "Inside the Cult of Kibu," their account of the rise and fall of
Silicon Valley start-up kibu.com, and other dot-com disasters. This is
Lori's second visit to Inkwell. She first appeared in July, 2001 (see topic
112), to chat about her memoir of childhood anorexia in her debut book,
"Stick Figure."

On September 13, Yankees beat writer Howard Bryant begins a two-week stint
in Inkwell to discuss his latest book, "Shut Out: Race And Baseball In
Boston," which chronicles the spotty history of the Sox since Jackie
Robinson's infamous 1945 Fenway tryout.

From September 27 through October 11, Richie Unterberger shares his
encyclopedic knowledge of '60s music and talks about his recently published
book on the subject, "Turn, Turn, Turn: The '60s Folk-Rock Revolution."
  

    

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have rescheduled Howard Bryant's
appearance. His discussion is now slated to begin on September 20. Howard is
the author of "Shut Out: Race and Baseball in Boston".

On September 27, auther Richie Unterberger joins us to discuss his latest
book, "Turn! Turn! Turn!: The '60s Folk Rock Revolution", and to share his
boundless knowledge on the subject.

From  October 11 to October 25, rock photographer Henry Diltz will talk
about his new DVD, "Under the Covers", and offer behind-the-scenes stories
about rock stars from Jim Morrison to Mick Jagger.

Also on October 11, author Marcy Scheiner, author of the memoir "Perfectly
Normal", begins a two-week stint in Inkwell to examine the difficulties and
rewards of raising a son with a chronic medical condition called
hydrocephalus.

Beginning October 25, Stew (nee Mark Stewart), a founder of the band "The
Negro Problem" and also a solo artist, talks about his musical influences
from James Brown to the Beatles.
  

    
Starting this Friday, online community experts Cliff Figallo and Nancy 
Rhine join us to talk about their coauthored book, "Building the Knowledge 
Management Network: Best Practices, Tools, and Techniques for Putting 
Conversation to Work" -- an extensive exploration of techniques and
tips on effectively tapping the expertise of your organization's members.

Beginning November 22, Howard Rheingold brings his experience and his 
delightfully quirky outlook on technology to a discussion of his latest
book, "Smart Mobs: The Next Social Revolution," and the ways mobile, 
wireless, Net-connected devices are creating a better-informed populace.

Also starting November 22, Christian Crumlish begins a two-week stint
in Inkwell to share insights on "Dreamweaver MX / Fireworks MX Savvy with 
CDROM," his how-to book on these two popular programs that are used

Also starting January 17, Mark Frauenfelder -- cofounder of bOING bOING,
former editor at Wired, and now an LA-based writer and illustrator -- offers
amusing science experiments gleaned from his children's book, "The Mad
Professor," and talks about his appearance on a television commercial for
Macs.

On January 31, self-professed renaissance geek Cory Doctorow returns for a
two-week appearance in Inkwell to talk with Charlie Stross about Cory's
latest book, "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom."
  

    
On Valentine's Day, we're having another double-header in Inkwell.

First up, Thom Hartmann, author of "Unequal Protection," joins us for an 
timely discussion on why a mistaken interpretation of a Supreme 
Court reporter's notes in an 1886 railroad tax case has led to a nation 
where corporations are granted more legal rights than individuals.

Also starting February 14, Mark Meadows begins a two-week stint in Inkwell
to talk about his latest book, "Pause and Effect: The Art of Interactive 
Narrative."

Beginning February 28, "Working Musicians" author Bruce Pollock shares
tales of his three decades as a music journalist, including observations
on rock luminaries from Springsteen to Zappa.

March 14 through the 28th, David Weinberger joins us to discuss his
book, "Small Pieces, Loosely Joined," and to explore his unified theory
of the Web. Inkwell host Jon Lebkowsky leads the conversation.

talk about "Eight Miles High: Folk-Rock's Flight from Haight-Ashbury to
Woodstock." This is Richie's second book in his two-volume exploration into
the roots of this influential musical genre.

On October 3, cooking expert and longtime Japan resident Eric Gower joins us
with his runaway hit, "The Breakaway Japanese Kitchen," which (in the
Japanese-language edition) is getting rave reviews all across Japan and
which is slated to be released in English at the end of this month.

Folk/bluegrass/jazz musician Bill Amatneek will be our guest for two weeks
starting October 17. Bill has played with the best -- from Bill Monroe to
the Chambers Brothers -- and his book, "Acoustic Stories," offers insights
into the music and those who play it.
