Linda - I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. I'd be interested to know what
you didn't like about it.

Robynne - Yes, I love Nick Park as well! Anything Aardman animation is
fantastic :) The only one of those other movies mentioned that I have
not seen is the Slow Bob short. Sounds interesting! Monkeybone I was
horrendously disappointed in, but James & the Giant Peach is another of
my favorites.

Also, I had no idea Lemony Snicket was there last night!

Maure - Teaching the song to the children sounds delightful :) Makes
me disappointed that my mother teaches high school!

crossbones? I had no idea who that was, but I remember the pants!!

I too had no idea about who was in them.

stagewalker - I mentioned an mp3 to you last night, of Neil reading
Shoggoth's Old Peculiar. I just discovered it on his site, in the audio
section. It is part one of the NY reading, at the bottom of the page.

Meg - hrm, it's in Real Audio... they haven't made a RealAudio player
for OS X yet, so I'll have to listen to it at home and then try and
convert it later.

I totally missed Lemony Snickett... I was too distracted by MadMan's
shirt and Squeak's boy's hair to notice the scary trousers.

I've not seen anything but the last 15 minutes of MonkeyBone...
it was... odd...

good grief! try to have a life and sleep for 12 or 18 hours and posts
just come crawling out of the... um... whatever they crawl out of...

<castle> - Kurt's still complaining about his hair. I'm supposed to
make it better somehow. I would expect it to be the other way around,
as Hair Police is usually where people go to *fix* the hair, but for
some reason she didn't get quite what Kurt was going for. Wish me luck.
Oh, and the couple of times I've been on that 'stage' was for choir -
I'm an on-again/off-again member of the UC Berkeley Alumni Chorus...
just don't ask what year I graduated from there.

Shawn - But I thought one of the reasons Anthony Stewart Head left
Buffy was to pursue the musical career he'd neglected for the series?

Dan - I was wondering who'd spill that bit. ;) And I can totally see
her in the role... only I'm kind of disgusted at the
black-buttons-for-eyes bit if it's not animated. Just think of all the
surgery! ;)

<siozie> - I too heard that she'll be both the Mother and the Other
Mother, so you weren't dreaming it! Gretchen (the doll) says thank you.
And I'm with you... the cat was spot on! (you'd think Neil has
experiences talking with cats or something) ;P

<rocky> - buxom...<just thinking of 'thingie calendar' photos and
giggling> Ooh! And copper red! I wanna see! That sounds pretty! And
yes, I'm still here.

Ack! I missed talking to practically *everyone* there. Part of me was
too busy trying to stay awake (as I hadn't really had any sleep in
several days... blame the rats - er, mine, not Neil's), part of me was
too enamoured of boy, a teensy part of me was trying to avoid
confrontation with someone I don't like who tends to try to corner me
into conversation if given half an opportunity (no one from online).
Part of me hadn't eaten all day and needed to make a food run during
intermission. And lastly, a small part of me was busy being jealous of
cool extension colours that I can't get in my neighborhood (between
Kurt, Amacker and Maddy, I thought I was going to start pouting).

Neil - You mentioned the BBC show "Ground Force" and they were in NYC
this week creating a garden in the East Village. Apparently it was done
in three days and looks like an urban paradise.

And it's really exciting to hear of plans for another collaboration
with Michael Zulli. Loved his work on "The Wake" and I have always
wanted to ask him to recreate the tea in the rose garden poster with
Death, Hob and Dream. Too bad DC didn't put that into mass production.
*sigh*

Squeeks - Hey, just more of me to love. :p
And yep, I went red. Notice it was a trend over at Thingieland? See?
We're all connected...in a very stange way. Scary huh? ;>

Rocky, ha! If only I could convince her. She's not so much the
sit-quietly, wait-in-line type of girl. But then, her soon to be
brother-in-law owns a comic store, and her soon to be husband reads
comics, and maybe if I can get her fiancee to come, she'll come too...
hmm.

Squeaks, how was the opera? It's very cool that your friend had a
duet. I have to send in my subscription for the season pretty soon, or
I'll be sitting behind froo-froo haired women again, and won't have a
line of sight that's void of stray strands of frizzled hair. I hate
that. Did you take pictures of Gretchen? I want to see her! That was
nearly my name.

Anthony Stewart Head left Buffy because he was tired of being away
from home for such long periods. So, they came up with a kind of Buffy
spinoff series for him to do about the adventures of the Watcher back
in England. I'm not sure where they are on that.

Not bad for a first time, Meg! If you have a point and shoot, it must be
really difficult, because you can't change the shutter speed. That's why
they are fuzzy, because the exposure time needs to be really short.

Thanks, guys! :)

I posted one of the better ones to photosig, and got some great
feedback as to how to improve those kinds of shots - and of course, one
of the recommendations was to have a tripod.

I wasn't able to sneak a tripod into Shoreline, though :) So next time
I will have to be truly clever!

E-mail from Reg:

Hi

Just wanted you all to know how very envious I am
about the reading, although I had the very enjoyable
experience on Friday of walking into my local
bookstore and having the owner grab me and drag me
over to the counter to point out the entry for
"Coraline" in the September catalogue from the
Australian publishers. Despite a rather plain and not
Dave cover, I know it is going to get some heavy
hand-selling around my way.

And I'm also jealous of those folk who will be
attending the New York function and get to see the
gorgeous Roxanne in her red-headed glory.

And so to the real reason for my posting: there are
people talking about Doctor Who.

I place little trust in this rumour, having been
dissapointed too many times before, but as a true
fanboy, I think it should be pointed out that since
the Doctor has already used up his twelve
regenerations, they can't cast a new actor in the role
anyway.

Oh, and Mr Ford, it's Seargeant Benton, not Benson.:-P

Oh! I almost forgot -- I bought my copy (well, OK, my first copy) of

D.C. the other day - the 1st, I believe. They had 2 copies.

Lioness--thanks! And Yay! Dulles airport bookstore!

having lovely holiday--hope you all had one, too. Saw Marcia Ball,
Midnight Oil & the Indigo Girls for free on Thursday--great show.
Peter Garret may be God.......

Saw Blow, Moulin Rouge, and Ghost World tonight. Wow. Head full of
fabulous performances--Depp, Leguizamo, Kidman, Buscemi, Thora Birch.
It's sort of a relief to see work of that quality when there's so much
dreck out there.

Which reminds me--bought a DVD of Accidental Spy a few weeks back.
It's a pretty good movie--not just because Jackie Chan runs naked
through a marketplace in Thailand, either. It's darker than a lot of
stuff he's done. Anyway, apparently the American version, which will
be out early next year, has already had about 20 minutes cut out of it,
and the box cover features 2 busty American bimbos who aren't in the
movie. Just a heads up--Region 0 DVDs are available now of the Hong
Kong cut, and if you want a copy, I think I'd advise picking it up now,
rather than getting the crap American version. When , O Lord, when
will Americans be able to see the Hong Kong films in their original
versions? Ugh.

And I'm rereading "Southern Ladies & Gentlemen" by Florence King, in
which she says, "It has been said that when two Greeks meet they will
start a restaurant, two Germans will start an army, and two Englishmen
will start a silence. It is not necessary for two Southerners to meet
in order to start something because we have taken a little nervous
problem called schizophrenia and raised it to the level of a high
art."

Squeaks - as Dodge mentioned, Tony Head left Buffy so he could be in
England, getting more time to see his family and, well, to be British I
suppose... :)
Will you be posting any pics from the reading on your webpage?

Dodge - I haven't heard any news about the new Watcher show for the
BBC either and I'm getting a little anxious. I think it's the sort of
thing that could be done really well in England, but Joss seems to be
doing about 97 1/2 other things at any given time (sound like someone
we all know?) and I'm worried about it getting passed by.

I do know that the Buffy crew was apparently in England this past
month shooting scenes with Head and Allison Hannigan for the Buffy
season premiere. Maybe they were also able to make some progress on the
Watcher series.

Mary - I saw finally Ghost World just this last week and it was faboo!
Steve Buscemi was just terrific playing a *normal* My only complaint
is that it seemed to end a bit abruptly; we never find out about Steves
job and the repercussions.

Neil - Many big congratulations on the Coraline movie news. I can't
wait to see what is done with it (although some of that waiting will be
done a little nervously)

Shawn-reading Peter Davids "Sir Apropos of Nothing" and liking it a
lot
