Wait, I'm so confused. I admit that I am new in the Lemony Snicket
phenonmenon, but it seems to me like he is a Mysterious type of aliased
person who doesn't get his picture taken. How do you KNOW it was him?
I was wondering if it really even WAS a him...

E-mail from Kathy Li:

I tend to read a fan webpage called "Ripper Updates"
(http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~pardos/RipperNews.html) to
see what the latest word on Ripper/The Watcher is.
Apparently, FIREFLY has set it back, but it's still on.

Neil once foolishly mentioned (when questioned about his B5
episode) that he'd love to write for BUFFY, so when I got
the chance in an FRAY autograph line at Comic-Con last year,
I actually floated the idea of Neil writing a RIPPER episode
to Joss (she says, attempting to sound very very casual
and luvvy, using first names and all despite being Just
Another Fangirl :-). I don't think it took, but I still
like musing over the idea.

As much as hearing that SWEENEY TODD's still in the works.
As with RIPPER, I can wait.

(BTW, don't ever skip the CBLDF party at Comic-Con.
Last year, Whedon stopped by for a while. It was fun.
I got to tell him that with "The Body", he'd finally
ousted Dennis Potter from my best-writer-for-tv-ever
spot, and he rocked back on his heels, narrowed his
eyes and said, "Them's fightin' words." Which made me
feel all warm and glowy).

Hmm. Neil. Writing Buffyverse episode or any kind. Wow. The
combination boggles the mind. I bet he could write a good Farscape one
as well. But that would take him away from writing BOOKs.

I once asked someone on a forum if Joss was married. They said
something like "Eww. He looks like such a dork!" And I told him that
Very Interesting Dorks are much more fun to date than Dull Good Looking
guys. Besides. Joss is not a Dork. Then you have Neil. Very
Interesting Good Looking Guy. But how many of those are there out
there. And he and Joss are sadly not available. And when would I ever
meet them anyway. And I think I'll go back to daydreaming over some
movie star and flirting with the guy next door.

Rattling. Sorry. Carry on.

Well, I know it was Lemony Snicket because I got introduced, though mainly
introduced by his other name under which he does some music & stuff. Of
course, it all could have been a bizarre prank I guess.

Neil would write a very good episode for the Head series if all those
contingencies ever happened.

Kathy - I'm a serious B5 fan, and sometime around the second season I
thought wouldn't it be cool if Neil was asked to write an episode?
After all, both Neil and JMS are friends of Harlan and he was the
Conceptual Consultant on the show [six degrees of separation and
whatnot]...next thing you know it's a reality. And a damn good episode
it was too! Ranked pretty highly with hardcore fans. So you never
know. ;)

By-the-way, "The Singing Detective" is pretty hard to beat.

Adriana - There was an article with a picture of Lemony Snicket in a
recent issue of NEWSWEEK MAGAZINE. Was he hiding or something?

Squeaks - It turns out I'm having more fun as a redhead. Go figure.

So, who else is going to the NYC reading/signing? I'll be there, with
my sister, and we may well get there around noon, though I may visit
some friends first and get there slightly later (I *so* am not all
about waiting in line, though).
I'll also be having noodles at a little restaurant called Republic
just aftwerward, if anyone else would like to join me.
We can e-mail cell #s, prolly. So. Looking forward to it.

It's true... i was blondie for a short period, but I'm back to red,
and there's just no beating it.

(although as a blonde, I DID look kind of german and sinister... like
I should be wearing Squeak's kick-ass boots and lots of leather.)

I was jealous of all of you before, but I'm now beyond jealous! Sounds
like everyone had a wonderful time. I can picture it all and pretend
that I was there as I read the posts....

I should be getting my copy from Dreamhaven any day now. I meant to
preorder it, but lost track of time. I have two calendars (a Tori one
in the bedroom, cute kitty one in the kitchen) It would help if I
actually looked at them. Oh well...any day now.

In looks like I'll be able to make the NYC signing. I just hope the signing
doesn't go on forever, I have to be back at work in Philadelphia Friday
morning.

I should be pretty easy to identify, I plan on wearing my "not my scary
trousers" shirt and my urban camo kilt.

E-mail from Christy Smith:

Will,

I'm glad you can come after all! I plan to be there, with brother in tow
(or is it he'll be there with me in tow? He discovered Neil first, but I
told him about the signing!). I plan to be there at noon, but he may have
to join us later if he can't get the time off.

Line numbers are a good idea. Too bad they don't give out numbers for
seats at the reading.

Adriana -- I've also seen some promo clips on the Web for Lemony Snicket
books; they may have been at HarperCollins' children's site. He--ahem,
his "associate" is very funny, and has a nice speaking voice. Actually, I
kind of thought he sounded like Steve Martin.

Safe travels, Neil! That goes for everyone else traveling to NY from
afar, too. I have to take the train up tomorrow, and I don't know if I'll
be online again before the event. But who knows, maybe I'll see some of
you (besides Neil, of course)! Some of you don't sound too hard to spot.
;)

Christy

Will, Christy, Roxanne, et al - I'm planning to be at the NYC reading
thing, with girlfriend joining me after she gets out of work (hopefully
at 5:30). I probably won't get there until mid-afternoon - Roxanne,
does the offer still stand to save seats? If so, can I pretty-please
have two?

I won't have a scary trousers t-shirt, and while I stand out like a
sore thumb in western Mass, I may look like a few dozen other
long-haired, ear-ringed, goateed guys in NYC. I'll probably just look
for scary trousers t-shirts and go from there.

Will - interestingly enough, my girlfriend already suggested Republic
for dinner afterwards - we've already been there once, and I really
liked it.

Look forward to meeting everyone! Everybody have safe travels to NYC.

drawing undue attention to myself. [Memo to self: Must..not..

I'm probably not going to make it to the signing. Making it to New
York is going to be hard now, as it is, because yesterday something or
other that attaches to the front left tire (Megan could tell you what
it is, I can't) snapped while we were driving, and the Lincoln is in
the shop. We're hoping it's fixed by tomorrow morning, but who knows?

Neil is probably very busy, so could anyone else tell me anything
about his and Zulli's Sweeney Todd? In a bibliography, I see it as
being listed under an issue of Taboo. Is it a full story? Is it a
comic? Is it available anywhere other than in Taboo?

Maure--I have Sweeney. Remind me & I'll bring it along next time
we're out & about. It's a lovely little chapbook.

I'm sorry about the car--be careful on the trip! May miracles happen
& you get to attend the signing anyway.

Everybody have safe trips--St. Brendan can only watch over so many of
you at the same time ;-) Have a great time, and post all about it
later!

Mary, Ooo, that would be marvelous, thank you so much! I was really
upset about the car, but then we had a fantastic thunderstorm, and I
watched Bringing Up Baby (which always makes me happy), and I sold a
poem to gothic.net, which was a happy surprise, so I decided life
wasn't so bad after all. That's a fantastic quotation.

Maure - sorry to hear you won't be able to make the event in NYC;
sounds like we're going to have quite a few people there.

Roxanne - change in plans! I only need one seat saved, as my
girlfriend is going to a job interview (in Stamford, though it's for a
job in Hartford, and so much, much closer to moi) after work tomorrow
and won't be able to attend.

Rocky, thank you for both sentiments! The car is going to be fine, and

Hullo everybody. I just wanted to say how tickled I was to meet

Neil. In fact I was so entertained that I decided to join this group-
(obviously, heehee). ^_~ Thank you all for being so supportive of my
artwork, so giving and just generally facinating people. It's nice to

Florence King quote #1--"Southerners have a genius for psychological
alchemy....If something intolerable simply cannot be changed, driven
away, or shot, they will not only tolerate it but take pride in it as
well."

Maure--Yay!! Go, you! <<does amazingly silly happy dance>> You so
totally rock! Sorry about the NYC trip, but I'm glad the car's OK.
We'll just have to go hear Himself at Humanities Festival in Oct.
<<sigh>> So much work ;-) It'll be right before his birthday again,
too...<<evil cackle>>

Florence King quote #2--(on the different types of old ladies in the
South) "All three are faced with the same problem: how to be old in a
region that places such a high value on womanly allure......Their
collective answer is: If you can't be pretty, you might as well cause
trouble. In the South, they amount to the same thing."

Lictor by Gene Wolfe.)

Hey everyone. Sorry to be anti-social, but I'm just popping in with a
request.

My Burning Man theme camp thing is in need of Neil-related/influenced
fan-art. What I need are JPEGs or even text files of poetry or even
very short (like 1 page short) stories. Usually I just snag stuff off
of other peoples fan sites, but this year I want it to be exclusively
WELL/thingie art, if possible (I'm even going to display my 'scary
trousers' shirt!).

Naturally, anything you send to me will be credited, and I can even
reference a personal website, if you wish. Any questions, or art to
contribute, please email to favourite_stalker@snafu.org

squeaks, who meant to post this a month ago.

Speaking as someone living in the South. From the South. I have but
one thing to say about everything they say about people from the South.
We do NOT eat dirt!
