hello. am back. actually have been back but have been too comatose to
write anything. needless to say this weekend has been one of the most
exhausting ordeals I have ever experienced.(being one of the hottest in
faire history apparantly-this from seasoned veterans- didn't helo
either) but also one of the funnest. I am now officially a rennie. I
have fallen in love with the whole faire experience-all the costumes
and vendors and extreemly talented and...unusual people that decorate
the day. I could go on about the mudshows and singing gravediggers and
tightrope walkers and contortionists and moving gryphons that look like
something out of Dark Crystal; but I am tired and have a full day of
walking dogs tomorrow so I want to go beddie-byes soon. But the weekend
was a success. And Magrat Fields the shepherdess (without a
sheep...apparantly sheep freak out if they are taken away from the
flock. I guess they think they are being taken to slaughter.)
entertained many a patron. ^_^

Have been catching up on all the exciting journal entries and have
added "Walking Tour" to my list of things to buy along with various
things from the CBLDF...when my paycheck clears completely that is.
Also enjoyed the "onions to carrots" story and the poem about
elephants. Eagerly awaiting Angels and Visitations to be
re-released....(is there a date for that yet?) so many things to look
forward to. Glad to hear of all your award nomintaions Neil. Best of
luck!

Christy- sorry about the mess-up again. Gotta stop these early morning
posts...

Abney Park...? what kind of music is it? Sounds interesting.

Squeaks- cool hair! At least it sounds really nifty! If you like you
can also use that "Flutterbye" poem I wrote for the burning man thing.
I son't know what kind of work you're looking for, but you are welcome
to display it. ^_^ it's in # 855.

Cindy- welcome (back). Lovely reviews. ^_~

Rocky- started Kushiel's Dart today (no time to read this weekend) I
missed 3 subway stops. 'nuff said.

Neil AND Madman slipped- that's what I get for doing 10 things at
once. Looking forward to the Coraline conference. Hee- yet one more
thing to distract me. ^_^ And I guess I will be ordering that "Live at
the Alladin" video sooner than later...

Okie. must sleep now.

they want to be. Fooled Mom, at least.

allo. I'm on vacation for the WHOLE month! This feels wonderful. I
need to do so many things, I don't know where to start. Jess will be at
6 flags all day tomorrow so I'll have lots of quiet time (I don't like
people pushing and shoving in lines...or rollercoasters, so I guess
I'm better off staying at home writing)Next week we go to Florida and
the keys and snorkeling! Then on my birthday we go to Indy to see
family and....there's nothing else in Indy really. I'm definitely
bringing my laptop.

squeaks- It's Burning Man time already, isn't it? I'll make it one of
these years....

Kristina- I love your quote-of-the-days.

Neil- Those You and Dave Mckean projects sound lovely.

Danw- I thought of you today when I bought some flippity flops. You
won't get my flippity flops! How's your film going, by the way?

I can't remember who, but a while ago someone brought up Rasputina and
posted a link to their website. Well, I was in the CD store last week,
saw a Rasputina poster and was like, "I'm supposed to check them out."
So I bought Cabin Fever. I'm completely blown away. I can't stop
listening to it. I haven't been this excited about a band in a long
time. So thank you whoever posted that.

Speaking of Vicorian-esque things. Has anyone else noticed that
boobies are very much in style this year? More than usual I mean. I
know you're probably thinking "everyone always likes boobies." True.
But lately, everywhere I look, almost every girl I see is sporting uber
cleavage. While wearing tight black leather pants, tons of glitter,
with tattoos showing, I say to Jess yesterday (who is eyeing these
girls as well): "I'm feeling very conservative and prudish all of a
sudden."

> He's a yeti.

ladies and gentlemen, we've come full circle :)

Now all we need are Cybermen...

John M. Ford: Chicago's PBS stopped running Who almost a decade ago--I
remember I wrote them a very irate letter, since Whovians had kept
WTTW afloat for about two decades of pledge drives, and the head of
programming phased out *all* the nifty stuff (Monty Python, Blackadder,
Red Dwarf, Boake's 7, and Who) because he wanted to focus on more
"respectible" programming. More likely he didn't want to pay the
licensing fees. Damn you, Anders Yokum Jr.! Damn yoooooouuuuuuu!

I was bummed, because I never did get to see the last dozen Peter
Davidson eps, or any of Sylvester McCoy. *grumble*. I shoulda moved to
Pekin.

stagewalker - Okay. Hrm... of course, there's still the problem of
getting my busy self over to your place at a time when neither of us is
working on something and when both of us are conscious - which doesn't
happen often. And if you could email me a JPEG, that would be perfect!
Thank you!

lioness - email me an addy to send the stripey goodness to
(favourite_stalker@snafu.org). :)

orangefae - Almost all of my friends are so jaded when it comes to Ren
Faires. This year one of my friends (who is also jaded, but still
thinks it's fun) put together an e-list and so now it looks like word
of mouth has spread and several of us jaded fools will be attending (in
full costume even!) - Should be interesting, as I haven't been in
something like 5 years now. The hair is in 'it hurts' stage until
tomorrow or the day after, but damnit, it looks cool! :) Oh, and thank
you, I will use the poem! It's perfect!

Erynn - Yeah, that time already. And naturally, since I've actually
got most of my stuff together for once, I had to take on more last
minute projects so I'm still running around like a chicken with my head
cut off until I leave. ;)

As for Rasputina - I mentioned them on the newsgroup recently (I've
had 'Transylvanian Concubine' in my head for days), but I don't think I
brought them up here.

on busty popularity - I blame Bionce and her photo on the Austin
Powers poster. The boy took one look at the poster and asked my why her
cleavage came all the way up to her chin (LOL)! Personally, I haven't
noticed much of a change in recent fashion, but then not much looks
risque or noticeable compared to fashion of a goth club (and corsets
make everyone's breasts look bigger).

Good grief, are we really discussing breasts? What's next, genital
piercings? ;P

don't know which email you mostly use. :/ I'm sorry your hair hurts,
but it sounds really pretty.

The weather changed drastically in a really short period of time. It's

Gaaaahhhh!
I took my poor little Saturn into the shop for a basic service
yesterday and found out that the battery was failing (which I
suspected) and the brake rotors were shot, and the power steering pump
was leaking, and etc. etc. etc.
Damages were a cat's whisker from a thousand dollars.
*slamming head against desk repeatedly*

*sigh*

Christy - I found Abney Park on MP3 eons ago. Any band with samples
from Joe Versus the Volcano melded into a driving goth beat is
super-groovy in my book. I also found some band (can't think of the
name right now) that did a dance mix with samples from Time Bandits.

Erynn - We're pushing to finish principal shooting by Sunday (thank
the diety of choice). There will still be the odd reshoot for those
bits that the editor decides suck beyond redemption and if we actually
do get Walken out here in September... but for the most part my hated
commute to the cow pastures of Cotati will be done with. It's being
submitted to the film festivals in October, so... we'll see.

This is especially good since I'm directing a piece that goes up in
October and I need to focus on that now. Speaking of which... anyone
interested in reading a 14 page script (about a half hour stage-time)
about nightmares? I've finished the second draft and could use some
feedback before going into rehearsals next week. This seems like a good
crowd to float this past...

And yes, I *was* thinking "everybody likes boobies"... you're psychic!

Squeaks - given the earlier thread, I read that as "getting my busty
self over to your place".. which has a far different connotation.
Anyway, I've e-mailed you on that... I might be able to swing by your
work with the CD and cards...
shoot.. didn't send the jpeg though... it's at
http://sj.znet.com/~macguru/graphics/goodomens.jpg
I did it about four years ago, which is just an ego caveat since I bet
I could do it better now.

btw... I felt deeply betrayed by the latest Austin Powers film... so
much potential, so much that was funny on paper... so much "look at how
funny I am" that it made me want to hurl... Mike Meyers is a man in
dire need of an authoritarian editor.

Dan- That sounds like so much fun. It's hard work of course...but FUN
hard work. You're so lucky:D

Squeaks- I don't think it was you. I keep wanting to say Danguy, but I
don't think it was him either. Rats. I'd look, but I hate running
across my old posts. They disgust me and make me cringe.
Re: Breasts (the more mature word for "boobies", I suppose.)Hey, we've
covered x-rated gnomes and humping stuffed animals! Why not? I'm just
not used to seeing so many while walking down the street. I mean, you
can almost see nipples. Maybe it's always been the fashion everywhere
and it's just now catching on to the midwest. Which is fabulous, I
guess, except when I see thirteen year old girls wearing this stuff.
That just seems wrong. Where are these girls' fathers? But then, maybe
people will become more desensitized and men will get bored with them
and start talking to our faces.
Genital piercings! My sister-in-law has one. She says she can have
orgasms just by walking. That sounds fun in theory. But I don't think
I'd want to, I don't know, walk in to work and go, "hi everyone!
ooohhh!"

Right. Dr. Who. I never really saw any episodes but one of my
boyfriends had all the shows on VHS. Didn't Kate Bush guest star in a
few episodes? That would be cool to see.

E-mail from Kathy Li:

Hi, all. Nose back to the grindstone after Recovery Day following four
exhausting fun-filled, jam-packed days at San Diego Comic-Con. I almost
find myself wishing that we'd ramp back to just comics and a reasonable
size. (OTOH, Joss Whedon and Ang Lee).

Adriana, hope you had fun! Sorry you weren't here last year, when Michael
Chabon was roaming the halls.

Neil, one of the registration folk told me they're fully expecting the
total attendance to come in at the 50,000 mark. You are *so* gonna need
that bodyguard next year.

OTOH, one gets to hang with the McCloud kids for four days. If it helps
settle the architect/pirate question any, Sky informed me very precisely
that she was not just an architect, but an "architect of honor."

I like "architect of honor." I think honor ought to have flying

restaurant-grade kitchen, but perhaps that goes without saying.

I would say that without going, but, well.
