On August 19, historian and journalist Mark Dowie joins us to discuss
his book "Conservation Refugees: The Hundred-Year Conflict Between
Global Conservation and Native Peoples". The book, which Michael Pollan
calls "one of the most important contributions to conservation in many
years", examines assumptions about wilderness that have existed since
the beginning of the conservation movement and offers a new vision for
wilderness protection that respects humankind's place in nature.

We have a few complimentary copies available for those interested in
reading the book and joining the discussion. If you would like to
participate, please email your snail mail address to inkwell@well.com.

Eric Pooley (former Well member) has a new book out, "The Climate War:
True Believers, Power Brokers, and the Fight to Save the Earth," and
will be our guest in Inkwell, starting July 21st.

(from his website)
In The Climate War, Eric Pooley, deputy editor of Bloomberg
Businessweek, takes us behind the scenes and into the minds of the most
important players in the struggle to cap global warming pollution—an
American civil war in which trillions of dollars and the fate of the
planet are at stake. To write this book, Pooley, the former managing
editor of Fortune and chief political correspondent for Time, spent
three years embedded with an extraordinary cast of characters on all
sides of the fight. The result is an epic narrative, a searing exposé,
and an essential read for anyone who wants to understand the most
important argument in America.

Starting on 9/29 our inkwell guest will be Eva Timothy who has written
a book called Lost in Learning. From the author:

"In a day when making education manageable has led to stripping
learning of its innate appeal, this book seeks to reconnect learning
with life's aspirations.

Lost in Learning: The Art of Discovery is a photographic investigation
of the Renaissance which explores historic perspectives on creativity
and learning as a voyage rather than a destination."

Coming up, NOVEMBER 10 - 24 Keith Eliot Greenberg will be joining
us in Inkwell.vue to discuss his new book about one of the culture-
changing crimes of the last century, "December 8, 1980: The Day John
Lennon Died"

"December 8, 1980: The Day John Lennon Died" is a portrait of that
tragic day in the life. What was the world John lived in? What
actually happened, and what might have happened if a few things were
different? This is a book about a man, his band, his word and his
killer, at a pivotal point in time.
